11 Reasons Why You Really Should Be Listening To Classixx - EDM Culture

11 Reasons Why You Really Should Be Listening To Classixx - EDM Culture

When news broke that Classixx had been been "booed" during some December shows I was shocked. My first thought "how can anyone not like the Classixx?". Then I saw the line-up. There they were, sandwiched in between the harder sounds of Zedd, Tommie Sunshine and Alvin Risk.

It wasn't surprising that the crowd reacted the way they did, especially with the majority of those in attendance expecting Zedd's more commercial appeal.  Pair that with Tommie Sunshine's electro house and Alvin Risk's dubstep- the warm, soothing sound of a live Classixx set didn't have a chance. It's kinda like putting Fleetwood Mac on a bill with Megadeth and Metallica. It's just not going to work.

You can fault whoever for the booking, and call the crowd n00bs, bros, chickbros,  etc, but where does that get us anywhere? Nowhere, fast.  And really, isn't it more important that Classixx' music gets a better chance to shine?

There may not be any killer drops or electro grinders, but Classixx have been making some really great music for a substantial amount of time.

So, here are 11 reasons why you really should be listening to them:

1. "All You're Waiting For" Featuring Nancy Whang

Nancy Whang's signature vocals combined with Classixx production/instrumentation.  It's like booking a first class ticket for your ears. Really.

2. "Liztomania" (Classixx Version)- Phoenix

Classixx has a knack for taking a great song and doing the impossible - making it better.  This is an example.

3. "Psychic City" (Classixx Remix) - Yacht

This is taste making summertime disco goodness at it's best.  You just feel better when you listen to this.

4. "Psychic City" (Classixx Remix) - Yacht

Yes, I'm pulling a Larry Levan and playing this again... Listen this time.

7. "Take A Walk" (Classixx Remix) - Passion Pit

8. "I Will Come Back" (Classixx Acapulco Nights Verson) - Holy Ghost

After this Classixx lesson, look up DFA records and Holy Ghost - you'll be very happy.

9. Reginald's Groove (Classixx Remix) - The Cosmic Kids

This perfect for the it's so late it's early house music set.  While you're at it, look up the Cosmic Kids.

10. Green Eyed Love (Classixx Remix) - Mayer Hawthorne

Guys, play this for a girl and you'll get laid - by at least an "8".  By a "10" if you play Psychic City (above).  Trust.

11. Cold Act Ill - before they were known as Classixx

See the thing about Classixx is, before they were Classixx, they were a duo called Young Americans.  They were fucking with the electro/mainstream sound before it was mainstream. They opted out and went for the good shit.  Don't believe me?  Look this song up... it's out there.
