TOKIMONSTA & MORE/SPAM N EGGS
Her music may often be categorized as bass music, beat music, or occasionally even (cringe) dubstep, but trust coming from someone who happens to be anti Bro-step, Tokimonsta has a chill, eclectic and very dirty vibe that can’t be pigeon-holed into any specific genre. Her R&B/indie infused fresh take on electronic music shines bright with unique collabs with artists such as Kool Keith! As a classically trained pianist and fearless producer this shy Los Angeles native continues to push musical boundaries and even convert “womp-womp” haters like myself with her slick productions and passion for her craft. TOKiMONSTA is notably the first female to join Flying Lotus’ crew/label BRAINFEEDER, which is on the forefront of LA music scene.
TOKiMONSTA tours the world regularly as a live performer at prestigious gigs like SXSW, WMC and beyond. Her performances are engaging as well as intricate—using new technology with pieces of musical and multimedia gear. Quite frankly I’m sick of hearing almost every interview with her describing her physical appearance. As adorable as she may be, her beats are badass and speak volumes. Prepare to be immersed in them when she plays a very special bday set at SPAM N’ EGGS!
Sets by: TOKiMONSTA, LA Riots, Djemba Djemba, Colta, DJ Nobody, and many more special guests!
Supported by: Berzerk, Project Sweatshop, Jetset, Blasted Events, Mont Tendre, LA Beatdown, Ktown Movement, D9 Reserve, Canvas, and Accessory Geeks.
FRIDAY JANUARY 31
NO REGULAR PLAY & MORE/RISKY VISIONS
ECHOPLEX. ECHO PARK
It’s risky business throwing an event in L.A with so many grandioso gigs to compete with, but this prize party seems to have their vision on lockdown with a superb list of artists and a film noir, speakeasy esthetic. Come hide...
“Borrowing from the mystique of L.A. noire, Risky Vision is a new monthly taking place at a The Echoplex overflowing with sultry house sounds, vice-fueled antics and intoxicating visuals. The night is risky, as was the initial vision of L.A - a desert oasis of infinite pleasures.”
-Courtney Fruit Fly Nichols
Damsels who cause distress. Men who crave orange zest and cigarettes. Our late night, lascivious business belongs in LA’s shadows, the deep sound of the underground. With pistols cocked, deep house / techno / disco are entering the ECHOPLEX for a new monthly affair. LA’s dance scene finally meets its vixen of a venue on January 31st.
NO REGULAR PLAY
No Regular Play are a duo equally at home in the rehearsal rooms of Julliard as in the main room of Fabric. Emotive and unapologetically organic, their fluid approach unites more than a lifetime of influences.
Their impressive live show, which features Paulus’ inimitable trumpet and vocals alongside DeBruyn’s masterful manipulation of the rhythm and soundscapes bridges the gap between the indie arena and the heartbeat of the dancefloor.
Watch their set at Boiler Room Berlin
Greg Paulus and Nick DeBruyn met as 8 year olds growing up in St. Paul, Minnesota, bonding over an early mutual love of hip-hop and jazz legends such as A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock.
Paulus performed trumpet at local jazz clubs in his teenage years and went on to study jazz/classical at the Manhattan School of Music. Together they later traveled to Cuba’s Havana to study Afro-Cuban rhythm, music and culture.
No Regular Play became integral to the Wolf + Lamb family when they took up residence in the Marcy building, a melting pot for creative minds. This move allowed a more fluid approach to their productions and new collaborations were formed.

MARCELLUS PITTMAN & MORE/ELECTRIC CIRCUS
In this crazy sideshow called “LIFE” music keeps us sane and I’m pretty sure if you are still reading my loco jargon you too have a thirst for hearing mind blowing music on the regular. ELECTRIC CIRCUS raises the bar and welcomes Detroit icon MARCELLUS PITTMAN to the ring with some of the most talented local lads, ZERNELL & TK muthafuckin’ DISKO ya’ll!
Peep a video clip from the last party!
- MARCELLUS PITTMAN (3 CHAIRS - DETROIT)
- ZERNELL (GRIMY EDITS - CHICAGO|LA)
- T.K. DISKO (SPLIT SECS - LA)
When other children were playing combat with G.I. Joe action figures in the early 80’s, Detroit native Marcellus “Malik” Pittman was playing his radio at maximum volume, listening to the sounds of “the Wizzard” and the “Electrifying Mojo”, in addition to the jazz outputs of Rosetta Hines.
Malik began his DJ pursuits for college parties, wedding receptions, “old school parties” in the early 90’s. In 1993, Malik released his initial work of production with local Hip-Hop collective “Home Grown”
Marcellus Pittman Unirhythm began his DJ pursuits in the early 90's and shortly thereafter, he released "Essential Selections, Vol. 1" on the Sound Signature label, headed by Theo Parrish. In 1998, Marcellus forged a union with Detroit legends Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, Kenny Dixon Jr., aka Moodymann and the man himself, Marcellus Pittman collectively known as the 3 CHAIRS. As production artists and selectors, they have helped to define an integral part of the Detroit sound.
Marcellus has been around the world playing in every major club imaginable. He returns to LA after his 1st ever appearance here in June.
Zernell was born in Chicago and started DJing at the age of 14. This was during the early years of house music and like a lot of Chicago teens he religiously listened to the Hot Mix 5 on WBMX . Zernell musically grew up in the Music Box listening to the sounds of Ron Hardy and was schooled by the master & protégé in the art of song selection and timing that drives dancers into a frenzy. Zernell’s Grimy style of music features some of the hottest and rarest disco songs and re-edits mixed just the right way to keep you dancing and wanting more, which has made Zernell one of the hottest dj’s in the underground dance scene today.
Zernell has done numerous parties including Chicago, Detroit, New York, Miami and LA.
He has toured the U.K. and Europe and headlined parties in Paris, Switzerland, Sweden,
London, Amsterdam, Italy & Berlin.
He has released frequent mixes on various websites such as Deep House Page and
Bring the Heat, which gained him attention & fans of music lovers across the globe.
Zernell Gillie's style can range from the heart of disco to the soul of Chicago house music with a grimy twist. By taking rare disco classics and stripping them down and rebuilding them to a beating perfection it's no wonder why his imprint Grimy, has sold thousands of copies worldwide. His musical savvy and hard work pushing his sound and disco/house culture is definitely paying off. Being a headliner at some of the biggest parties from L.A. to New York and numerous top billed events over seas has put Zernell in high demand.
SF transplant and LA local Travis "T.K." Disko cut his teeth as a mainstay in the San Francisco music scene. He brings a deep knowledge and respect for music to his gigs. Never lazy, always evolving, he’ll have your girlfriend dancing on tables or your boyfriend trainspotting from behind the booth. From the barn burners to the makeout jams, T.K.’s got ‘em.
Over the last two decades, T.K. has Dj'd internationally and shared the decks with some of the world's best. He held a 2 year residency with disco cult leader, DJ Harvey and was invited to DJ at the infamous Wicked parties. Today, in addition to DJ-ing, Travis spends his nights in the studio with production partner and long time friend, Alexandre Mouracade recoding as Split Secs, prepping a new kind of groove for dance floors everywhere.
