The Annual International Dance Music Awards that are held each year released their nomination lists this morning. Big ups to all of the nominees this year, though some of the categories and picks have just left us confused, and having open-mouthed WTF?! moments.
Here's what is making us scratch our heads.
Genre mixing: House/ Garage/ Deep House, Dubstep/Drum n Bass aren't all those three separate genres entirely? Has the electronic music bubble grown so big that even the IDMA's now believe that all house/ garage/ deep house sounds the same?
Dusky, Shadow Child & Tube & Berger nominated for Best Tech House/ Techno track: We suppose Tech House/ Techno is also 'Deep House' now too
Eric Prydz and Paul Van Dyk are apparently classified as, "EDM/ Pop": Really? Ok, bro.
Dixon and Flume nominated in the same category for Indie Dance/ Underground- We're really curious to see who wins this one.
Martin Garrix gets nominated for "Best Trance DJ"? OK! Just because he's Dutch doesn't mean he makes Trance.
Lorde Nominated for "Best Breakthrough Artist (Solo)"- Among notable DJs like Breach, Carnage, James Blake, Best Trance DJ nominee - Martin Garrix, DJ Snake and Duke Dumont. We are aware that she might be collaborating with Disclosure on a track, but at least wait till it comes out first! Jeez...
What are your thoughts?
