Six Believed Methamphetamine Overdoses At Future Music Festival Asia Force Its Cancellation

Six reported deaths at the Future Music Festival Asia in Kuala Lumpur have forced the cancellation of its third day, according to the Star, a Malaysian newspaper and the festival's Facebook page.  Three others are believed to be in critical condition.

City police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the nine, ages from 21 to 28, collapsed during Friday’s event after consuming drugs at around 1.30am.

One person died on the spot in Bukit Jalil while another died on the way to the hospital. Four others died at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC ) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM).

The victims are believed to have ingested methamphetamine in its pill form, according to the Star and New Strait Times, another local paper.

The Future Music Asia's Facebook reads "In the interest of public safety we have heeded the authority's advice to not proceed with Day-3 of Future Music Festival Asia 2014". According to their Facebook page, refund details will provided at a later date.

The third day of the festival was to be the most diverse, with artists from both hip hop and EDM culture to perform. deadmau5 performed on Friday, with Saturday seeing Armin Van Buuren's A State Of Trance programming the main stage.
