Summer is right around the corner- that means it’s time to predict the biggest EDM songs of 2014 for the pool and festival season. Now, first let’s define anthem: these are the songs you will hear at every festival, every pool party and by Labor Day weekend will be ingrained in your ear drums. With the knowledge that #SELFIE will be inescapable, but here are five more early picks on the top anthems of summer.
MAGNETIC RECOMMENDS:Top 10 Electro/Progressive Chart
These are selected based on the ability to make a large mass of individuals move in a synergistic motion we call dance and general ‘summer party’ mentality (see “This is Dirty,” “BAD,” and “We Like to Party”). Let us know what you think! Only time will tell what the unstoppable songs of summer will be!
Dimitri Vegas, Martin Garrix, Like Mike – “Tremor”
It’s a safe bet to have Martin Garrix on this list somewhere. “Animals” was a staple (and quasi-controversy inducing record) at Ultra, but “Tremor” is the next electro-house hit from the Dutch wunderkind. Epic builds, heavy drops, and a festival favorite countdown moment.
R3hab & Deorro – “Flashlight”
R3hab kills it again with “Flashlight.” After an epic minute long build, “Flashlight” rips loose with another festival favorite countdown moment, but this time in Spanish, because English countdowns are so 2013 (sorry Martin Garrix!). Smooth chords become intense chords that build to the final shake that will definitely wake you up.
DVBBS & MOTi – “This is Dirty”
The title of this song is correct: it’s dirty. Not for the faint of heart, DVBBS and MOTi build you up, throw you down hard, only to build you up again in a continuous motion – all while telling you just how dirty they can get. These builds, drops and heavy synth will definitely get the party started and carry the party long into the night.
Showtek – “We Like to Party”
The title of this song is enough: summer = party. Following in the Dutch (must be something good in the water over there…) tradition of big beats that drop heavy bass and melodic synth lines, “We Like to Party” is made for the summer months. La la dee – we like to party.
David Guetta & Showtek featuring Vassy – “BAD”
David Guetta is back with a new sound – this time without his friends atop the Top 40 charts. Now he’s enlisted Showtek (see “We Like to Party”) and Vassy for BAD. This may seem like a wildcard selection for being one of the top songs, or even an anthem, but give yourself a couple weeks of summer behavior and you’ll say why DOES it feel so good to be bad?
Honorable mention: Tiësto featuring Matthew Koma - “Wasted”
“Wasted” is being recognized with an honorable mention because, while it might not be played AT the festival or party per say, it SHOULD be played as your pre-game song. I like us better when we’re wasted. Who doesn’t?
