This week in new electronic music, one word: Ultra. I didn't have the fortune of attending, but I've listened to so many awesome live sets I've lost count. This year, we saw a marked increase in the number of DJ collaborations premiered at UMF, resulting in some very exciting combinations of production talent. Keep reading to find out what my top 10 progressive/electro house picks are for the week, drawing from Ultra's premieres as well as new tracks from up-and-coming talent.
1. "Rocket" (Working Title) W&W & Blasterjaxx, TBD
E-P-I-C track premiered by W&W in their Ultra Miami set and later played by Hardwell. This is an extremely satisfying collab, with signature sounds from both producer duos. I recognize some of the percussive synths from Blasterjaxx's "Miami," bringing me back to when I first discovered them in one of David Guetta's live sets. Release TBD.
2. "Guitar Track" Sander Van Doorn & Firebeatz, Doorn Records
This tune was teased on several DJ radio shows without revealing the artists' true identities, but it was recently announced that this is a Sander-Firebeatz collab. This track is fire - electrified synths followed by smooth guitar riffs. Out now.
3. "Tremor" Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Martin Garrix, Spinnin' Records
The crowd went bonkers when Martin Garrix dropped this massive collab at Ultra this past weekend. Earthquake-inducing synths. Out April 21st.
4. "Arcadia" Hardwell & Joey Dale feat. Luciana Caporasso, Revealed Recordings
The crowd reaction was so positive when Hardwell dropped this vocal-infused electro thriller that you can hear cheering over even the highest peaks in the recording. What an explosive collab. Release date TBD.
5. "Spaceshuttle" Lights, I Like That!
I'm very impressed with this massive track by German producer Lights. The drop unleashes atomic energy and really makes me feel transported. I hope this tune makes it into some EDC live sets. Out April 7th.
6. "Don't Need To Run" Paolo Aliberti Feat. Sagi Rei, Rise Records
Uplifting vocals by Sagi Rei fuel the buildup to a progressive, energetic drop. I'll be keeping my eye out for what Aliberti can craft next. Out soon.
7. "Violin" Antoan & Fernando, Sweet Beat
I've been waiting for a producer to incorporate some classical violin into a massive electro track, and Antoan & Fernando have done it to devastating effect. This is going to be the next "Flute." Out now.
8. "Turn Up The Music" Mark Star & Rene Rodrigezz, Big Smile Records
Star and Rodrigezz team up to deliver a massive room banger with glitchy synths bridging the beats. Turn up the music and pump up the sound! Out on April 4th.
9. "Go Hard" Quintino, Spinnin' Records
Quintino is back with a triumphant melodic buildup and a glitchy-synth driven beat. Out May 16th.
10. "The Windwalker" Rudy Zensky, Ensis Records
Zensky continues to produce some of the most interesting electro melodies in today's EDM scene. The buildup starts with rattling percussion that carries into the deep bassline. Out now.
