It's EDM festival madness this weekend in NYC, with EDC New York and Mysteryland both being hosted in the city's immediate vicinity and drawing throngs of electronic music fans from NYC and worldwide. This week's top 10 electro and progressive chart features tracks that will definitely get played at this weekend's festivals. I'm attending EDC, so that's going to be the focus of most of my predictions. Let's go!
1. "Born To Rage" (Mercer Remix) Dada Life, So Much Dada
Guaranteed to be played in Mercer's set at EDC New York this Saturday. An amazing rework of Dada's already high-energy banger, giving it an even heavier hit. Out now.
2. "Gold Skies" Sander van Doorn, Martin Garrix, DVBBS ft. Aleesia, Spinnin' Records
Sander Van Doorn and Martin Garrix are really leading the vanguard of electro/progressive house right now. Aleesia's vocals are moving, and the melodic drop is instantly memorable. Out June 2nd.
3. "Helium" (Tiësto Remix) Chris Lake, Ultra Music
A welcome remix by the man himself Tiēsto of Lake's great vocal track. Tiësto sticks to his progressive house guns on this riveting rework. I expect to hear this in Tiësto's closing set at EDC New York this Sunday. Out now.
4. "White Rabbit" (Let's Be Friends Remix) Kalm Kaos ft. Trinity (original by Jefferson Airplane), ID&T
Let's Be Friends was asked by ID&T to remix the Kalm Kaos remake of the Jefferson Airplane original for MysteryLand USA coming up this weekend. Fitting as the festival will be held on the original Woodstock grounds and this song is iconic of the 60's. The energy in this remix is insane and I love the way the original vocals get chopped up. Out now.
5. "When Will The Bass Drop?" Davvincii feat. Lil Jon
This is one of the craziest big room bangers I've ever heard. Producer Davvincii literally came out of nowhere. Some say that this track was ghost produced by Andy Samberg, but I know that's not true because that is whack. I don't care what the haters say, Davvincii is the DJ to watch in 2014. Release TBD.
6. "Loyal" (Grand & Warren x Yonny Remix) Chris Brown
The Tri-state duo continues to smoothly meld hip-hop with progressive house, this time teaming up with Yonny to deliver a solid remix of Chris Brown's latest hit. The piano riffs in the intro ease you into the buildup, and the drop is unlike any other electro or progressive track out there right now. Marching band drums with swooshy synths. Available as a free download via the SoundCloud stream below.
7. "Wasted" (Ummet Ozcan Remix), Tiësto ft. Matthew Koma, Universal Music
Ozcan will definitely be unleashing this at EDC New York. The Turkisk-Dutch producer does what he does best - taking calmer vocal or melodic phrases and remixing them into bomb-dropping monsters. Out now.
8. "Damn Cold" Tony Romera, GURU Recordings
Tony Romera keeps stepping up his production game. The melodic buildup has an exotic but glitchy vibe and the drop is so hard it's so damn cold. Fingers crossed that I hear this at EDC New York. Out May 26th.
9. "The Universe" Marcus Schossow & Arston, Revealed Recordings
This is a truly touching tune by veteran Schossow, teaming up with Arston. Listen for this one in Hardwell's EDC NY set this Saturday. Out now.
10. "Where's The Party At" Alean & Skyy and Paramo, Peak Hour Music
I recognized the name Alean & Skyy because of their last monster banger "Nuke." This time they team up with Paramo to bring a massive electro room destroyer that incorporates a trap beat after the main electro drop. Out now.
