The Port of Long Beach may be home to the legendary Queen Mary but last Saturday, Take 2 Entertainment hosted their second annual Boatylicious, a one-of-a-kind concert cruise stacked with eight DJs and a slew of summer-ready party people.
Our day trip began when we pulled up to the docks and slews of city kids dressed in their best nautical attire piled out of party buses preparing to board a Catalina Classics Cruise ship with impressive DJ sets from headliners Kastle, Plastic Plates, and Le Youth.
Kid B. set the tone for a day of smooth sailing by spinning one of our favorite tracks from the French Express posse, Isaac Tichauer’s “Take Over You”, as we boarded the boat. In fact, it was as though all the DJs had tapped our personal repertoire of the hottest tracks and played them one after another.
The crowd was dancefloor-ready and we had barely left the docks, looking forward to the sunny day ahead. Clear skies and worry-free, party patrons rocked the boat seamlessly moving between sets aboard the cruiser.
LA natives, Kedd Cook B2B with Burn Unit warmed up the decks (pun intended) as we trailed the harbor at dusk. It was an eventful Saturday afternoon! Tropicool had just flown into LAX from Berlin, and we partially expected him to arrive last minute via helipad on the top deck. Side note: can you Uber helicopters yet?
Le Youth took the outdoor stage to the next level, spinning a fierce set of fresh tracks. By the time Plastic Plates took over things were really heating up on board Boatylicious, but he kept it strong with a mix of surefire hits and originals.
Back inside, Kastle drew in the crowd with his signature blend of smooth, bumping beats. He capped off the fun-filled day with back to back remixes that made the dancefloor lose control.
