BREAKING: Beatport CEO Removed? Vice To Buy XLR8R?

Big shake up rumors from Beatport as we are hearing from reliable sources that Matt Adell is no longer the CEO of the company.  At this time, there is no word on whether Adell, who was listed as one of the 50 Most Important People in EDM by Rolling Stone, resigned or was let go.

Beatport, an EDM downloading site, was purchased by the Robert Sillerman lead SFX Entertainment in early 2013.  Mass layoffs, described as a "bloodbath" by some media outlets, occurred in December in an effort to re-organize the company.

In a press release at that time SFX said: "this refocus on maximizing Beatport as the definitive site for everything related to Electronic Music is indicative of our commitment to igniting the simmering Revolution of this astounding movement, Electronic Music Culture. We look forward to unveiling a number of exciting new technology initiatives in 2014."

In other news, it looks like Vice is in talks to acquire left-field electronic music publication XLR8R. Nothing confirmed at this time, but this would be a pretty big shift in the EDM media industry. No word on if this has anything to do with a$2 billon offer Time Warner recently put in for Vice Media a couple of weeks ago.
