Brian Brockette, pictured above, passed away at Electric Forest in Michigan.
UPDATE: We received word from Electric Forest that this was in fact two separate incidents. Brian Brokette's death is not related to witness accounts of severly wounded man walking on festival grounds. The latter received medical treatment and is recovering. No further details have been released.
Michigan State Police are reporting that 20 year old Brian Brokette passed away after suffering a medical emergency Sunday on the grounds of Electric Forest 2014. Brokette was 20 years old and a resident of Caledonia, Michigan. He was a volunteer for an outside vendor who was contracted for the festival.
Lt. Jeffrey J. White of the state police says autopsy results on Brockette are pending, and that the agency has no further information at this time.
However, speculation is mounting that Brockette's death may be a attributed to an accident that happened on festival grounds on Sunday night as well. Multiple first hand witnesses reported seeing a man with a throat injury, covered in blood running from the camping area to another section of the festival.
Initial reports from YourEDM and BeTheRave.com indicated that this was possibly some sort of murder or suicide, but that has since been ruled out. New accounts are indicating that this may have been an accident with hammock wire, but this cannot be confirmed presently.
Electric Forest has issued the following statement:
"On Sunday night, the festival's health and safety team was alerted to a medical emergency involving an outside vendor's volunteer. Event medical personnel responded along side Michigan State Police troopers. The man was then transported to a local hospital. We later learned that, unfortunately, he passed away."
Electric Forest started in 2011. It takes place in Rothbury, Michigan and is produced in part by Insomniac Events and Madison House Presents. It is held on the Double JJ resort. This year the festival was held June 26th - 29th.
