Many of you diehards might already know this, but before Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo formed Daft Punk, they were in a band with now Phoenix guitarist Laurent Brancowitz called Darlin'. It was a rock act with heavy disco & punk influenced, named after a Beach Boys song.
Darlin' gained a little bit of buzz in the early 1990's. They were on a couple of compilations and released a cassette demo in 1992. At one point, a review in British music magazine Melody Maker called the music "a daft punky trash." Hence the name of the modern electronic music legends.
Four of Darlin's track are available for you to check out on YouTube, and we've put them together in one quick and easy post for you. If swapped the guitar progressions with some synthesizers on some tracks, you can almost hear Daft Punk about to come on stage, so to speak.
