Wow! The last two weekends of shows have been epic! Two weekends ago were great times at Wakarusa and Raindance. Last weekend, we supported our good friends, Thievery Corporation and Tycho, at their sold out Red Rocks show in Colorado. Talk about a dream gig! We had such an amazing time performing under a full moon at, in my opinion, the most beautiful venue in North America, if not the world.
For this week's Top 10 ELM, Future Funk, Neo World, and everything in-between chart I wanted to focus on acts performing at the upcoming SONIC BLOOM and WHAT THE FESTIVAL. We are so excited to be a part of both of these amazing festivals. The lineups are absolutely stacked at both events. Sonic Bloom is an amazing transformational festival that is happening in South Park, Colorado, with a massive lineup. What The Festival is a relatively new festival that has been making large waves in the Pacific North West. The festival has an eclectic selection of performers covering all forms of good electronic music. Tickets are still available for both events, but get them now. Check out this selection of tunes and remixes from artists performing at these festivals.
PRETTY LIGHTS - TOTAL FASCINATION (DEFUNK REMIX FEAT. BENJAMINS VIBE
DeFunk is another super funky Canadian from Calgary, Alberta. He has been pioneering swing meets bass meets funk for the last few years. He is an edit and remix master. It is really nice to see some dope up and coming talent represented at Sonic Bloom. DeFunk is going to melt faces with his amazing performances. We are stoked to be rocking it with some of the Western Canada family this weekend.
BOOKSY RIDDIM – THE LIBRARIAN
Andrea Graham aka The Librarian is serious family. She is the cofounder of Bass Coast Project in Squamish, BC, a sick dj, and an amazing producer! Canada Represent! It is so great to be rocking some festivals over the summer with The Librarian. We are on the same schedule this weekend. We will be bouncing from Sonic Bloom in Colorado to What The Festival in Oregon. It is going to be fun weekend cruising with the first ladies of Bass Coast.
QUANTIC – DUVIDO FEAT. PONGO LOVE
Quantic has been a huge influence on Fort Knox Five since we started. His music is beautiful, and is the perfect meld of organic live instrumentation, and electronic elements. Pretty much every time this guy releases some music it is worth checking it out. This new tune is such an amazing funky world music tune. I absolutely love world music that can rock a dance floor. Quantic always rocks the party!
MICHAL MENERT - CHIC AGO
Michal Menert is an amazing human being. He is an inspiring person to hang out with, and I love talking music with him. His new Space Jazz stuff is fantastic. It truly is just that!! Some serious space age jazz music! I am so excited to catch Michal with his full Big Band at Sonic Bloom. I have been following some of the rehearsals. It is definitely going to be one of the performances not to miss at this year’s Sonic Bloom.
OPIUO - SNORKLE
Opiuo blows my mind every time I see him perform. His stage presence and live show are ridiculous. Some of my favorite festival moments over the last couple of years, have been Opiuo. His new tune Snorkle is a sick future funk jam. He always has just the right amount of bass with heavy phat beats to keep the funk alive in his mix. We were lucky enough to remix one of his tunes last year! He is completely blowing up across the globe! I am super proud of Oscar!
NIGHTMARES ON WAX - KEEP ON FEAT. DE LA SOUL (86 IN THE MIX)
Nightmares on Wax is legendary in my opinion. A lot of us would not be making the type of music we make without this pioneers contributions. On Keep On, he teams up with another group with legendary status, De La Soul. This is a classic golden era hip hop tune that belongs in every dj crate. This is from the upcoming N.O.W. IS THE TIME compilation dropping on Warp Records in June. I am very excited to check out N.O.W. at WTF this weekend.
LATE NIGHT RADIO - CHIN UP
Denver based, Late Night Radio has been blowing up with his explosive live performances, and souled out tunes! Chin Up is from his upcoming release on Super Best Records. I have been hearing lots of great things about this guy, and his music. I am definitely checking out his set at What The Festival. I am sure it will be sick!!
THE GLITCH MOB - WEST COAST ROCKS (2014 MIX)
The Glitch Mob has been at the forefront of the West Coast Bass music scene since its inception. The original version of West Coast Rocks was released on a mixtape in 2008. These guys are super hyped right now with a brand new album and massive tour happening right now. They are headlining all of the best festivals this summer. This is one big performance not to miss at What The Festival. We are stoked to be sharing the stage with these guys once again!
RIVA STARR - WE GOT THIS TING FEAT. ROOTS MANUVA (ARDALAN REMIX)
Ardalan is a veteran of San Francisco’s Dirtybird crew. He makes super dope house tunes, sone with an occasional dope breakbeat. This remix of a newer Riva Starr tune is a wicked primetime burner, and features that break that I love so much. Unfortunately this is just a 1 ½ minute clip. I usually don’t feature clips and previews, but this one was too good to pass on. I would just head over to Beatport and grab this jam. Most of the Dirtybird family will be hosting the pool party at WTF. This is going to be nuts!
LITTLE PEOPLE – OFFAL WAFFLE (EMANCIPATOR REMIX)
Emancipator makes gorgeous music. His performance and stage setup is stunning. It is really amazing to see people grooving so hard to such downbeat music. The music and live instrumentation is amazing. His remix of Little People’s Offal Waffle is such a beautiful spaced out odyssey of music. I am really excited to catch several of his performances over the summer. He is also with us at Shambhala. I can’t wait ! This summer is looking great!
BONUS TUNE FROM FORT KNOX FIVE
FORT KNOX FIVE – INSIGHT FEAT. ASHERU (A.SKILLZ REMIX)
This is one of my favorite remixes of our music. It is by our good friend, and sick dj/producer/remixer, A.Skillz. He completely flipped our tune Insight featuring Asheru. Originally this tune is a slow hip hop jam, but Adam managed to up the tempo, and make it into the ultimate dance floor burner! I have been dropping this for years, and still continue to pull it out when I need to get the floor moving!
