Michigan has been the home to Insomniac's and Madison House's four-day camping festival recently renamed Electric Forest. Some say it’s the most unique Midwest festival that our generation can take part of. With the increasing desire to change and out do themselves, the forest was above expectations. The Sherwood Forest is a modern hippy paradise. The atmosphere is filled with good vibes, fresh air, and a forest that takes your breath away. Decorated from the roots to the leaves, the forest cannot be given its justice from pictures or articles, its simply an experience.
This Midwest festival brings people from across the globe for years of memories. Being a few hours from Chicago and Detroit, the festival is home to city slickers and forest people. The ears of the goers are split between jammers and ravers but all are there to get lost from the music in the forest.
The talent ranged from Matt and Kim, Excision, String Cheese Incident to ScHoolboy Q. It may seem as a clash, but sharing was caring to all the siblings of the forest as they gave away bracelets, pins, and traded personal artwork. The good vibes from the crowd emulated on to the preforming artists resulting in many memorable performances. I believe the foresters witnessed some of the best sets to be put together this year. Cashmere Cat, Zeds Dead, Excision, Mk, WhatSoNot, GTA, Paper Diamond, Glitch Mob, Luminox, EOTO, Classixx, the list doesn’t end.
It was five stages of futuristic décor, a touch of traditional living, then wrapped in a forest of lasers. Never a dull moment once entering, you are either at an incredible performance or walking through a field of spectacular art. Magnificent neon trees, not the rock band, I’m talking real growing trees with colorful lights that casted on them from many angles. These trees were also the support of hundreds of hammocks that people set up in between them, at one point a group had six hammocks on top of each other for the best seats in the forest. Really though, what can be better than the vibes of EOTO from a hammock. A two person hammock.
The sold out festival didn’t ever sleep, the show carried on to the camping section where people set up their own mixers and ran them out of their car. Even some vendors cleared room to host an unofficial after party in the paths outside. Of course Insomniac & Madison House wouldn’t have it any other way.
