By Jon Horvath of Fort Knox Five
These last couple of months have been crazy! We have hit so many dope festivals and events across the country. It all started with Lightning in a Bottle, then onto Wakarusa, Raindance, Red Rocks, Sonic Bloom, What The Festival, The Big Boom in DC, and many more awesome club shows. It has been a trip of epic proporations that has been filled with some amazing memories.
For this week's Top 10 ELM, Future Funk, Neo World, and everything in-between chart I wanted to focus on acts performing at the upcoming NORTHERN NIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL in Piercy, California this weekend. We are so excited to be a part of this almost brand new festival. The lineup is so stacked. I am really excited about catching Mr. Carmack, Lindsay Lowend, Justin Martin, Zion-I, Pumpkin, Sabo, and many more. NNMF is located in Percy, California, and is a venue with a beautiful river running through it. Check out this selection of tunes and remixes from artists performing at this festival. Get ready to hear tunes like this run through massive ridiculous VOID sound systems.
BEATS ANTIQUE - THE RIFT FEAT. ALAM KHAN
The Rift is taken from the 8th studio album from Beats Antique. This album was exclusively released in a partnership with BitTorrent. The Rift is a beautiful uptempo piece with gorgeous string arrangements. This tune is spooky, but in an absolutely beautiful way. I highly recommend catching the Beats Antique live performance at Northern Night Music Festival.
KENNNA - RELATIONS (JUSTIN MARTIN REMIX)
This is an amazing remix of the new Kenna EP from Dim Mak Records. It combines beautiful vocals with some heavy bass driven beats. Almost every piece of music that Justin touches is in my dj crate. He makes such excellent tunes for the dance floor. Big respect for this guy, and the whole Dirtybird crew!
ODESZA - SUN MODELS FEAT. MADELYN GRANT
Sun Models is the first track from Odesza’s upcoming album. These guys have absolutely blown up in the last year. Based out of Seattle, this duo is making big waves in the scene. It is very pretty music with a heavy uptempo beat. I would highly advise keeping your eyes and ears out for this duo. They are going big places.
THE HORROR SHOW - STEEL RESERVE FEAT. PIGEON JOHN (MR. CARMACK PRODUCTION)
I just found about The Horror Show when researching more about Mr. Carmack. This is some real future hip hop music. Mr. Carmack is another cat that blew up in the last year. He is pretty much the man of the moment for abstract beats and hip hop. His sound is very eclectic, but also very danceable. We are performing on the main stage right before Mr. Carmack, so we will get to see him rock it firsthand!
LINDSAY LOWEND - ASHTRAY
One of the things I love about the Northern Night Music Festival lineup is the talent buyer, Matty of World Famous Productions. He is right on the pulse of what is happening at the moment. Lindsay Lowend is a DC area native. This kid is young, but MAN!! He can play they synth! He recently signed to Kastle’s Symbols Label. He is someone that has only been in the game for a couple of years, but he is on the right track!
LITTLE PEOPLE - WONDERLAND (BLOCKHEAD REMIX)
Continuing with the fresh lineup at Northern Night Music Festival, we have Little People. Laurent Clerc of Little People has been really making some beautiful music. It is definitely all over the place genre wise, but usually stays close to trip hop, and fantastic beats. This Blockhead remix of Wonderland is amazing. I just started learning about Little People, and I am definitely hooked on the music.
SANTOS SUAREZ - THE DRUMS (SABO EDIT)
DJ Sabo is a master of funky world music. He is one of the innovators of the Moombahton genre. This guy is an absolute machine in studio, and a maniac on the decks. He has steadily been releasing awesome edits and remixes of some of the hardest to find Latin classics. Definitely check out all of his releases on his label Sol Selectas. They are all monsters!
THE MOWGLIS - SAN FRANCISCO (PUMPKIN REMIX)
I can’t get enough of Pumpkin. He has not put anything new up on his soundcloud for a bit, but I know he is cranking on a new album. I am very excited about this. There are a few songs out there that are quintessential Pumpkin songs, his remix of The Mowglis – San Francisco is one of those tunes. This is one of those jams that everyone will sing along too. I highly advise that you never miss a Pumpkin set if possible. Stoked to be rocking Northern Nights, Bass Coast, and Shambhala with Pumpkin over the next month.
JOBOT - ITP (IN THE PAINT) - SIMPLIFY RECORDINGS
I met Jobot last month at What The Festival in Oregon. I have been digging his mid tempo glitch funk bass sound for a while. It was great linking up, and now I am even more of a fan. His song ITP was featured on K Theory’s Midtempo Revolution compilation. There are a few producers out there that are keeping the bass glitch hop sounds extra funky. Jobot is definitely one of them. Check his soundcloud for funky bass music and remixes!
BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD - FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH (FORT KNOX FIVE - DC’S FINEST REMIX)
Here is a classic DC’s Finest remix of Buffalo Springfield’s hit For What It’s Worth. We added some Shaft guitar samples, and beefed up the beats. It is just another feel good tune to make you smile and appreciate life on sunny afternoon. We will be doing a 4 turntable dj set on Sunday evening on the main stage at Northern Nights Music Festival this weekend. Come get down with us in Northern California!
