Akai Professional Announces The AFX And AMX Modular Controllers
Akai Professional released two new controllers earlier this month in the wake of Serato DJ’s new expansion packs: Serato Flip, NoiseMap and DVS. Both controllers are solid, and provide a cheap solution to the previously high barrier-for-entry for Serato DVS.
The AFX, aptly named for its touch-activated FX knobs, is a modular controller much like the Kontrol F1, but with a touchstrip and Serato Flip controls. If you’re looking to jump on the Flip bandwagon, but for whatever reason don’t have thousands of dollars lying around, the AFX will sell for only $199.99, the same price as the F1 (2012). The AFX will most likely be used to control Serato Flip or DVS functions, but is still a fully-functional modular controller.
The AMX serves as a two-channel mixer with an InnoFader and a built-in Serato DVS audio interface. Designed to be the centerpiece of your DVS surface, the AMX is not only sexy, but it delivers. It comes with the standard knobbage (gain, eq, FX), the best mini crossfader available, and dedicated DVS buttons (absolute, relative, internal). The AMX will sell for $250.00, pocket change compared to, say, the DJM series, but still more than the Traktor Z1 (a functional alternative).
