Headhunterz On Stage at Hard With Style
Southern California is known to be one of the hottest spots in the world for Hardstyle music. Last Saturday, Hardstyle legend and pioneer, Headhunterz, teamed up with Insomniac's Basscon to host the first ever Hard With Style in the States. Taking place at the National Orange Show Events Center, HWS was a great reason for the Hardstyle community of So Cal to reunite before this year's upcoming The Sound of Q-Dance in November.
Walking in, we were intrigued by the famous "Electric Lake", that recently had not been open to the public so it was a refreshing sight to see. The lake stirred excitement amongst attendees upon arrival, and brought back nostalgic memories of past events. Kandi was out in full effect, accompanied by a variety of creative outfits, not to mention the hilarious totems from this years Electric Daisy Carnival.
Welcoming us to the States' first ever Hard With Style, was the smashing Rebourne. Timon van Merriënboer (Rebourne) did a spectacular job of welcoming in the fans, and closing out the day time. He messed with with some of his remixes/originals, constantly switching it up on us. When the sun had finally fallen and the stars were above us, we were ready to enjoy the night we have waited months for.
Following up the clever opening set was the inspirational Adrenalize. At the young age of 17, Malthe Mehlskov (Adrenanlize) has easily let his music do all the talking. He has risen up ranks rapidly, performing at the Basscon stage at EDC Las Vegas 2014, the famed DEFQON1 festival, as well as the previous Hard With Style at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Receiving massive support from Headhunterz, Adrenalize was a perfect addition to the first Hard With Style in America. His majestic music and excitement was absolutely amazing, and it brought nothing but good energy to the crowd. It's great to see when a young artist is so passionate about the music, and even more so when it is conveyed into their performance. Much love towards Adrenalize, and what he is doing. We got a great taste of some Hardstyle, but now it was time to mix it up a bit...
Kayzo, a 22 year old producer from Houston, Texas, has easily earned his spot on this line-up. Supported by artists such as Krewella, Carnage, Diplo, and many more, Hayden Capuozzo (Kayzo) has made something greatly respectable of himself. He astonished people when he won the Discovery Project in 2012 as his very first gig, and now two years later he is playing with some of biggest names in Hardstyle. His set was a perfect mixture of EDM classics, Hip Hop, and Trap/Hardstyle. Dropping tracks from all genres, he reminded us of what real DJing is. We think it couldn't have been a better opening for Headhunterz.
Ahh Headhunterz though... and the beautiful lasers... you couldn't help but get goosebumps. Willem Rebergen's (Headhunterz) melodic tunes went perfectly with the wide stage and stunning lights. It was very upbeat at certain moments, and then it would drop to highly emotional tracks. It was a very unique set for a very unique occasion. The house was packed with everyone under the colorful sky of highly powerful lasers. The bass was so heavy that it was like a stress pill, in the sense that when it hit you, nothing else mattered. The music spoke to everyone's soul, and really took all anxieties of life away. Many QDance, Basscon, and California flags were flying high, and it was at this moment we knew we were at home with family. The stage and sound production were at their best, and this made for a unforgettable set from Headhunterz. You could really feel his excitement for after all... this was his first Hard with Style production in the US.
Following the fantastic Headhunterz was Wildstylez. Keeping the same powerful hardstyle going, Joram Metekohy (Wildstylez) really did do a number on the crowd. Letting loose some insane and euphoric tracks on us, things just got wild. It seemed as if we were in a Hardstyle paradise dancing our Saturday night away. Being a legend in this genre, Wildstylez was the perfect closing to the individual sets. However before the night ended, we had something great in store for us.
The Hardstyle All-Stars were up to bat, consisting of every artist that played that night, playing back to back for one hour. If you ever heard a back to back with just 2 DJ's, imagine what 5 can do at once! So many tracks, from so many artists.. it was a lot but something we heavily enjoyed. It was a perfect idea to finish out the first ever Hard With Style in the United States. It definitely made a spot in everyone's memory bank of Hardstyle sets.
One of the most powerful senses is sight, and our eyes had a lot to take in that night. If it weren't for the eight beaming lasers, it was the 10+ strobes that worked perfectly with anticipated drops such as "Lessons in Love". The stage stood about a story above the crowd, which made for a great view for the artist. We were highly impressed with the hard work that the production team had done that night.
Overall, we think the event was a huge success, and would recommend attending the next Hard With Style.
