This week our Top Nu-Disco & Indie Dance has some real muscle. Strong singers, strong collaborations, so much strength, no one list should have all that power! Let us not also overlook the fact that the soul of this chart is very deep, meaning there is a lot of soulful influences, plenty of relevant R’n’B influenced music. The best music to listen and dance to is the music that you want to fall in love to, this is something I have said before, now I am saying it again! Let us dance together my top nu-disco & indie dance lovers!
1. “Feels Like” Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs x Anna Lunoe, Nice Age
Two of my favorites! The first release off of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs' brand new label (Nice Age), a collaboration I got excited about when Anna told me about a few months ago. Now it is here, and I can’t stop listening to it! Bravo! Bravo! We want more!
2. “Pwoin Pwoin Pwoin” The Alexanders, Partyfine
The Alexanders (Yuksek and Alex Metric) are having a very special year, and they may be my favorite super duo, time will tell, but I love all the disco influence they draw upon. Perfect for any party. Keep it up gents!
3. “A Simple Design” The Juan MacLean, DFA Records
Anytime Nancy and The Juan MacLean collaborate, the world becomes a better place.
4. “Sun, Moon & Stars Pt. 1” Menace & Lord, Better Music
Another super duo! This time Kris Menace and Simon Lord, both experienced musicians and masterminds combining their worlds for artistic benefit. Kris brings his unique flair for electronic production and Simon puts forth his voice and pop sensibilities, the result is a feel good album on the horizon!
5. “World Restart” Kindness feat. Kelela & Ade, Female Energy Rrecords
This is one cool song with great classic components of soulful singing and a bold horn section. Mellow vibes, but plenty of energy to sway and bust some subtle moves to.
6. “Dream Machine (Bit Catchy Remix)” Tesla Boy
Plenty of energy in this latest bit of nu-disco from Bit Catchy, remixing Tesla Boy to take us on an journey to outer space. It is retro but contemporary, it is very very catchy.
7. “Retrograde (Finn Pilly Edit)” James Blake
This tune has been around for a year, but it is a remix that deserves as much attention as possible. Giving James Blake a much necessary dance energy injection, Finn Pilly maintains the strength of the original, but bringing the groove in the best way.
8. “All the Same (Slow Hands Folk Wash)” Slow Hands
Funk and folk are not often said together, but Slow Hands went there. A declared personal favorite of Slow Hands, this is a romantic song with folk elements that feel close to Modest Mouse or the Shins. This is a song that hits you and you need to take a moment, like an arrow to the heart.
9. “Always Tomorrow” Orsun, Nude Disco Records
Put on your sequined space suits, bedazzle your helmets, and get ready to disco into outer space!
10. “1998 (Detroit Swindle’s K.98 Remix)” Chet Faker, Future Classic
Oh boy, a new favorite tune of mine gets an innovative remix… So much soul, such a voice, and the remix talent is from an established great act. Sit down and take it in, then jump up and get after it!
