Top Ten In House Music - August, 26 2014

The tech-house side of house music has been killing it lately but this week sees a return to true form as most of the new cuts this time around are simply deep & funky, good old-fashioned house music.

1. “Piano Weapon” Shadow Child & Doorly, Polydor

The man formerly known as Dave Spoon has re-invented himself into a bass-heavy house enigma that now goes by the name of Shadow Child.  Shadow Child co-wrote this piano-house gem with Doorly and it was first heard by most back in March on Shadow Child’s masterpiece of an essential mix.  Soon to be out for sale very shortly….

2. “The Way You Are (Oliver $ Remix)” Daniel Steinberg, Arms & Legs Records

Major funky house re-work of Daniel Steinberg’s “The Way You Are” which was just released yesterday on his Selected Remixes Volume 1 via the Arms & Legs imprint.

3. “The Limit” Cera Alba, VIVa MUSiC

This funky driving tune by Cera Alba is taken from his recently released EP entitled “Synthetic Artistry” which is out now exclusively on Beatport!

4. “All Comes (Mind Against Remix)” Christian Loeffler Feat. Gry, Young Alaska

Christian Loeffler’s “All Comes” off of his brilliant album, “Young Alaska” gets some remix treatment here courtesy of the always epic duo Mind Against.

5. “The Reason We Took It Underground (DJ Dan & Simon Doty Remix)” Studio Nova, InStereo Recordings

This 1998 underground disco-house choon was a favorite of DJ Dan’s back then and now he has released a remix package of it on his own imprint Instereo Recordings.  The pick of the bunch for me is his remix of it that he co-produced with Simon Doty.  Funky, aggressive, jacking peak-time house music at it’s finest!

6. “Hiya Power” Nick Curly, 8bit Records

The main man, Nick Curly with an Ibiza style jacker entitled “Hiya Power”.

7. “Orange & Blue” Remi Mazet, Colors

Colors is an East London party collective that has presented each of their parties with a different theme, usually in the vein of a specific color or pattern.  The performers and attendees have participated in the presented theme and all of the parties have gone on with great success.  To expand on this success, they have gone and launched a record label with a matching name.  There are four diverse tracks on this premiere release by their resident Remi Mazet but the pick of the bunch for me is “Orange & Blue” which is a deep exercise in house music that touches on bits of funk, jazz, & disco.

8. “It’s All About Me” Green Velvet & Jay Lumen, Relief Records

The collaboration here between Jay Lumen & Green Velvet is a match made in tech-house heaven on Green Velvet’s own long running imprint Relief Records.

9. “Sunkist” COEO, Let’s Play House

Let’s Play House has proven to be one of the most reliable house music labels based out of the US at the moment and here they strike again with a well-rounded EP of fine house music from producer duo COEO.

10. “Limehouse Afternoon" Mr. Tophat & Art Alfie, Karlovak

The eighth release on Mr Tophat & Art Alfie's imprint is a two-tracker that features the highly infectious "Limehouse Afternoon". Out now digitally and on vinyl as well.
