Festival season is in full swing and it has been a memorable one so far. Now, if you are on the West Coast this weekend, and you are in the San Francisco area, you know Outside Lands is going to be a big one this year, if not for the amazing food, beer and wine, but more so for the dance offering.
Always having a significant presence on the diverse lineup, this year it seems that electronic dance music has really grown in representation across all of the stages. This is what has me the most excited to attend Outside Lands this year, and everybody else better be prepared to dance and groove in San Francisco like their lives depended on it.
There are many reasons to go to Outside Lands, but here are my selections by day as must see dance acts. They will kick it up, give you a work out, and maybe even be the perfect soundtrack for you to fall in love with, if you are lucky enough to find your very own festival cutie.

He is a signature of the San Francisco scene, throwing some of the best parties with top talent this city sees on the regular. He will be posted up in the Heineken House early at 1:30, so do yourself a favor and maximize your ticket and you be early too. He does it all from dnb to rnb to downtemp and hip hop, he has that Bay Area sound, so show him some love on his own turf!
Synthpop, dancepunk, and disco afficianados are just a few ways to describe Holy Ghost! The biggest thing on DFA since LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost! knows exactly what they are going to do to you, make you dance your face off. The groove is very much alive with these New Yorkers, and they are going to show the West Coast what is up, and I expect all San Franciscans and beloved tourists to get down with your bad selves when Holy Ghost! takes that mainstage. Be sure to have a beer or wine in hand, but please leave the food off the polo fields, do not disrespect the dance gods. It may be outside, but it’s going to be the best danceclub ever in your heart for the entirety of Holy Ghost!’s set! Also, apparently they will be doing a secret set, but if you want to experience some other DFA masters, definitely hit up Monarch on Saturday for the Pat Mahoney and Nancy Whang LCD Soundsystem Outside Lands after party!
The Funk Lordz are not to be missed this time around. They have always been strong, but White Women is their best work ever. I saw them crush Coachella, I have heard all their venue stops are funked out excellence, and they are not an act to miss on the mainstage on Friday. Also, Bay Area talent and Chromeo collaborator Toro Y Moi would seem like a very appropriate guest appearance, so you better be ready to come alive for that timeless festival moment (I’ve seen it once before, and I really want to see it again!).
Now these boys really need no introduction, nor an explanation, but to the uninformed or unaware or just generally stupid, Disclosure has been on a world tour for the past two years with one of the best UK Garage albums in recent memory. They crushed Northern California at the Greek with their wildlife tour back in April in between Coachella sets, and they are going to crush San Francisco like an English Godzilla.

Smooth, English, sensual and just god damn perfect producers. They have been crushing 2014 with their releases, and they are going to crush your heart only to build it back up again. Their music is full of romance, full of style, full of everything good in universe and so it should be full on going deep into your ears and right into your soul at the Heineken House come Saturday.
Fun is the mission of this DJ supergroup duo of Armin Van Helden and A-Trak. They will have an inflatable duck with lazer eyes, do I really need to sell you with anything more than that? I mean they will have top notch turntabling, they are masters of house music, they are an indisputable collaboration that is inequivocally super. What are you doing still reading this? You should be pushing and shoving your way to the front of the stage right already before the gates even open!
The Boys who makes Noize is going to bring some of that acid house, techno hardness and just bad ass sound to the Panhandle stage. Get ready to get aggressive, get ready to go nuts, he is a bit darker than your usual dance fair, and so the fainter hearts better stay with Mr. Anti-EDM Tom Petty at the mainstage. Serious business is the focus of Boys Noize, and damn good music with an edge and power is what he will deliver.

Lights Down Low
Richie Panic, Sizemore (fka Sleazmore) and MPHD compose the mainstays of the California Jack Music promoters Lights Down Low. They started in San Francisco and have since expanded to LA, but never forgetting their roots. If you want a damn good San Francisco time where you can jack your body and get weird with it, this is an early set to get your final festival day started in the right way. They have a beautiful after party on Friday with Breach and Shit Robot that is not to be missed FYI.
Australia’s hottest export, Flume is an act that will get your body moving and all those beautiful booties shaking. His recent remix of Lorde is one of the more memorable songs of 2014, and whatever he has cooked up to knock your socks off come Sunday, you better do what you can to be at his set early and stay until the very last drop. Do not miss this guy, he is just the best kind of musician.
8 months ago a dance classic was born, so when you hear the tune I am talking about come on, you know exactly what you can do when you walk around that Outside Lands dancefloor. A Titan of techno, a diverse producer of many names and styles, Green Velvet is going to do right by you, and you best do right by him with only the finest dance moves San Francisco has ever seen this weekend.
Synthpop gods and explorers of all things fun. They will take you over with their amazing sound, and not to mention their lights and music. With a new album that has pleased the critics and fans alike, they will play the hits and hopefully your heart will melt with their simple but deep sound,
Some are not pleased that he has left trance. Some are elated that he has delved into the depths with his deep house forays and sets. Others love him for his huge hits and ability to crush massive venues. We will see what Tiësto shows up Sunday, but if you aren’t interested in the mainstage, you have a great option to close out a beautiful festival with a renowned dutchman.
