Fall is here and with it a surge of stimulating new electro and progressive house music. I expect to hear many of this week's picks at TomorrowWorld in Atlanta this weekend. Arty continues his streak of incredibly pleasing progressive house remixes and takes the number 1 spot this week with his OneRepublic remix. Firebeatz has hovered at the top on several charts, but this week they will leave you blown away with a big room treatment of a classic club track. Viva el cuarto grande!
1. "I Lived" (Arty Remix) OneRepublic, Interscope
OneRepublic's tracks have been no stranger to being remixed by electro/progressive producers. Arty's treatment of their new single lets the insanely inspiring vocals carry the intro, introducing an appropriately light but very fulfilling melody that carries the drop. Out now.
2. "Calabria" (Firebeatz Remix) Rune RK, Musical Freedom
There seems to be a trend this week with remixes that let original songs play through a bit before building into a seamless big room remix. Firebeatz once again earns this chart's recognition by creating a monster room banger out of the classic saxo jam "Calabria." Out October 13th.
3. "Begin Again" Knife Party, Earstorm
Knife Party continues to tease amazing new tracks from their upcoming album "Abandon Ship." This track really reflects the group's former incarnation Pendulum in terms of vocals and sound. Definitely brings me back to my days in London, when Pendulum really got me hooked on electronic music. Out October 27th.
4. "Heroes" Alesso, Alefune
Taking a break from his electro experiment "Tear The Roof Up," Alesso returns to his signature more melodic sound, this time toning down to produce his most soothing vocal track yet. Tove Lo's vocals will make you feel like a hero for sure. Out now.
5. "Ultraviolence" (Hook N Sling Remix) Lana Del Rey
Can't believe it took me this long to discover this gem, but I couldn't pass up including in this week's chart. My old favorites Hook N Sling construct a funky future electro house track built on Del Rey's soothing voice. Out now.
6. "Fancy" (Jordy Dazz Bootleg) Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX
Jordy always brings the electro heat with a bold bootleg of the Iggy Azalea crowd favorite. Starting with a big room beat, the synths rise to produce a speeding-car effect, gradually slowing down and dropping the pitch until the beat leads right into "Fancy"'s original bassline. Release TBD.
7. "Arcadia" (Thomas Newson Remix) Hardwell & Joey Dale Feat. Luciana, Revealed Recordings
Thomas Newson puts his name on the radar with his epic room remix of Hardwell's already top-notch release "Arcadia." This is definitely the track to play if you're in the mood to jump. Out now.
8. "Boomshakatak" Wiwek & Alvaro feat. MC Spyder, Spinnin' Records
Wiwek writes the manual on jungle electro with his new EP "Jungleterror." The track featured here is a monster tribal bouncer created with the help of Alvaro and rasta vocal drops provided by MC Spyder. Jumanji on 'roids. Out now.
9. "Midnight" Still Young, Size Records
Keeping with the Size Records style, Still Young emerges onto the scene with a captivating progressive house melody. The big room sound can have a softer side when it needs to. Out September 29th.
10. "Nightmare" Timmy Trumpet, Doorn Records
Timmy Trumpet continues to lead the vanguard of top-notch Melbourne bounce talent. The percussive synths are addictive as hell. Out October 13th.
