Chart: Top Drum & Bass and Drumstep Songs 2014 - Week 37

This has been an incredible week for Drum & Bass in Los Angeles. This past Sunday saw the Nocturnal Afterparty at Project Los Angeles with High Contrast & Kove; this past Wednesday saw the beginning of Hospital Records' new HospitalityLA residency in Glendale with Fred V & Grafix and a very special performance from MRSA, also known as Mat Zo. In the same vein, a lot of great music has been released this week and it was difficult narrowing it down to just ten tracks, but I managed. Here you have the top 10 tracks of the week. Enjoy.

1. Shpongle & Gunslinger, Dreamcatcher (Khurt Remix)
This tune's Eastern string influence and acid house base make for an incredible beginning to a DnB tune. While the drums are not especially energetic, the melody and synth work are top-notch.

2. Astronaut & Eyes, Pinball (Bluescreens Remix)
The Destination: Pinball EP had a lot of great remixes, but of course, only one of them could find itself on this particular chart. Bluescreens tears up the original with a heavy neuro spin and keeps the energy up from beginning to end.

3. I See MONSTAS, Circles (Mat Zo Remix)
I had the huge pleasure of seeing Mat Zo perform a set as MRSA this past Thursday, and this track should remind everyone that he definitely still has a heavier side to his productions that he can bring out any fucking time he wants.

4. Draper, Joyride
This one comes off of Draper's new EP, just released yesterday on Monstercat. The awesome melodic style is something that I really hope will catch on and inspire some producers of other genres to try their hand at DnB.

5. Jamie Now, Exhale
The subdued drums and strong cosmic vibe of this track feels like you're floating out in space. 'Exhale' is so diverse in its style, it could be called any number of genres like future trap or even minimalist techno. I choose to hear the DnB influence in it, so that's why it's on the chart this week.

6. Excision & Dion Timmer, Out Of Time ft. Splitbreed
Excision's newest Shambhala mix was absolutely deadly, and had a great many tracks that are deadly enough on their own, including this drumstep beast, courtest of a collaboration with Dion Timmer and Splitbreed. I would expect nothing less.

7. Shapeshifter vs The Upbeats, Bloodstream
The music video is awesome on its own, but the track, a collaboration between two heavyweight up-and-comers, is crack to my ears. It's a beautiful tune with heaps of energy and wonderful sound design.

8. Prolix, Set The Place On Fire VIP
"To celebrate my new EP being the #1 selling release on the whole of Beatport this week, I have decided to give away the previously unreleased VIP version of 'Set The Place On Fire'." FREE DOWNLOAD.

9. I See Monstas & Botnek, Deeper Love
This isn't even the full track, but it requires posting just on its sheer quality. I would never expect these two artists to come together and make something like this.

10. μ’s, Snow Halation (REDSHiFT Remix)
Yup. I found another one. This time, it's vocaloid Hatsune Miku and the remix has just as much pop as you would expect. Nonetheless, it's a DnB tune worth listening to for the pure energy it brings. No grime, no filth -- more like Hello Kitty DnB but it's still good.
