I'm in a sunshine state of mind. With the passing of Labor Day weekend we acknowledge the looming end of summer. The warm rays of the fading season glow on our tan skin as we savor every last drop. The poolside footwork, sexy tanlines, delicious drinks and strong hi fives are still thriving. Tis the season of tropical tomfoolery and we’ve got a strong soundtrack for you to ride this wave all the way through. This summer has marked the beginning of a cult craze that is Tropical House and Sunshine Disco and I’m here to introduce you to some of the best of the beach. Thanks to a select few coastline composers our ears and feet have been blessed with this new genre of endless summer electronic that is here to stay. As the pink lemonade sunset dips into the deep blue abyss of our great summer let us remember the big wave riders that got us here.
1. “You Are My Summer Feat. Coleman Hell & Jayme” La+ch
Nothing beats the summers of our childhood. Scrapping, yelling, mixing it up around the neighborhood with all your friends, drinking out of ice cold hoses, running through sprinklers - we yearn for that feeling of free relaxation and La+ch does the greatest job bringing us back to the good ol days. The duet of raspy Coleman Hell and deliciously sweet Jayme balance perfect with the clickin, boppin, saxxin multi-instrumental blend that La+ch fires off. I can definitely hear this song resurfacing next year on top 40 radio.
2. “When The Beat Drops Out (Blondee & hagen Remix)” Marlon Roudette
The steel drum is the heartbeat of this good vibe love story. I want to wrap myself up with a sunkissed beauty and dance the hot summer night away to this sensual song. Germany’s Blondee & Hagen paint the original rave & blues house track with a fresh Caribbean coat while managing to hang onto Marlon Roudette’s soulful serenade.
3. “Tendency (Satin Jackets Remix Official)” Estate + Liquid Pegasus, Eskimo Recordings
Satin Jackets sends us into a deep sea dive as we explore the depths of tropical house. This poolside slowburner cascades with floating glimmers and zipping synths. Think the underwater level of Donkey Kong but instead of an ugly gorilla you’re swimming with a sexy plurmaid. Satin Jackets’ new EP just came out two weeks ago and its a perfect endless summer trio of deep house, nu disco tracks. Check it out on Soundcloud!
4. “Make Me Feel Better” Alex Adair
The Sunshine Disco is burning bright. Alex Adair’s original track gets you moving and grooving from the get go and is served best with a mojito poolside or in white warm sand. Check out his new remix of Jessie Ware’s new single ‘Say You Love Me’ when you get a hot minute. Excited to hear more from this young Brit.
5. “Tropical Chancer” La Roux, Kitsuné
La Roux’s new album is hot fire throughout but this caribbean platter of sweet musical fruit has its own flavor beyond the rest. Known more for her pop tracks this new sound she tries out will give you a new found respect for the UK siren.
6. “Don't Wanna Be Your Girl (Thero Remix)” Wet
This song is like a classic Welcome to Paradise postcard. Its the perfect blend of dreamy coastline soundscapes and powerful instruments that just makes you feel HAPPY. The saxline spits hot fire as the bongos, snaps and steels all add a little something special to this savory sunshine sauce. Our islander singer has a pitched vocal backup that really gives this track a nice zip and coastal Floridian Thero aka TJ Sarda is the man behind all these intricate island touches. You can definitely hear his hometown roots flowing through this tropical oasis of awesome. I give this song two shakas way up.
7. “Snowship (Thomas Jack Remix)” Benjamin Francis Leftwich
Our list can’t go on without paying tribute to one of the founders of this amazing new genre. Australia’s Thomas Jack is my favorite artist in the game thanks to his incredible song choices and amazing mixes that can be found on Soundcloud. This strong rework of Mr. Leftwich’s beautiful folky jammer sounds like flamingos, Coronas and lime, rainbow sandals and the delicious smell of sunscreen.
8. “Limit To Your Love (Kygo Remix)” James Blake
Its a bold move to try and remix an already amazing song like Sir Blake’s ‘Limit To Your Love’ but the crowned king of tropical house Kygo thrives with it. This accentuation of the hauntingly, beautiful track is a delicious marshmellow among a strong list of amazing remixes by this young Norwegian kid composer. I cannot wait for his first original track album dropping later this year. He and Thomas Jack are rocking the Fonda Theatre for a few days in October if you can make it.
9. “California ft. Kaleena Zanders (Summer Mix)” SNBRN
LA’s SNBRN pays tribute to his home state with this totally tubular Cali cover. We are lucky to have an endless summer in this beautiful, groovy city and SNBRN is the best soundtrack to enjoy cruising along beach. This new discover skyrocketed into the scene at Palm Spring’s Splash House festival earlier this year and I can’t wait to see our hometown boy blow up in the scene.
10. “Bloesem” Sam Feldt & De Hofnar, Spinnin Records
When the string section sails into this island jammer the world becomes a more beautiful place. This delightful acoustic driven jammer has a crisp pop to it with a lovely wood flute melody that evokes smiles. Heavy hitting stadium electronic label Spinnin Records took a chance on a different style of artist in Sam Feldt and it is certainly paying off.
