Many are hailing 2014 as year of the collective. With rag-tag crews like Wedidit, Team Supreme, and MOD growing and expanding exponentially, this nomenclature seems more than appropriate. One of LA’s finest is Shifty Rhythms, an up and coming label/collective with dance music as its focal point and hip hop at its core.
These rising stars recently released ‘Volume Two’ the second in a series of compilations, featuring sounds from almost every end of the dance music spectrum. The comp showcases exactly what Shifty is all about through an impressive 17-track selection of forward thinking dance music.
Notable works on this release include Neo Fresco’s “Soundcloud Celebrity” a satirical stab at Soundcloud culture and internet fame. Quinn Kyle flaunts his production chops on “Sippin” which feels like a lean-inducing psychedelic journey through a Harlem trap house. Additionally, EDC Vegas Discovery Project winners and Shifty Rhythms residents Planet Rock contributed a bouncy future bass remix of Phantogram’s “Fall In Love” and trap heavyweight ETC!ETC! unleashed the bass heavy beast, “Payola”. Hex Cougar provides listeners with a break from the comp’s fast paced vibe with “YNGBLOOD” a lush, downtempo track rich with sub-bass textures.
All in all ‘Volume Two’ demonstrates the many sounds and specialties of Shifty Rhythms, a collective of talented producers who are sure to set the world ablaze with their unique take on dance music.
