Megan Sutherland's Los Angeles Event Picks - Week 48
It was a vivid moment speeding down the 101 a few months and some moons ago, when the hauntingly talented moody vocals of miss Twigs resonated with me from KCRW’s morning becomes eclectic show.
Although I don’t recommend trying to shazaam and drive at the same time, I must admit I’m grateful I did that morning and have been enjoying diving deeper into exploring this artist.
Tahliah Debrett Barnett better known by her stage name FKA twigs, is an English singer-songwriter, producer and dancer originally from based in London. "FKA" stands for "Formerly Known As". Her debut album, LP1, was released in August this year and has been receiving critical acclaim ever since. She graces L.A with a live performance tonight!
Peep a remix of hers I’ve been grooving to lately right here:
FRIDAY NOV 21
THE REGENT THEATER. LOS ANGELES
Crafting ethereal electronic R&B that evokes the heyday of Tricky and Massive Attack, London's FKA Twigs is the project of Twigs, a half-Jamaican native of Gloucestershire. Surrounded by farmland during her teens, she studied ballet and sang on tracks recorded at a studio in a Jamaican youth club. By the time she was 16, Twigs -- whose nickname comes from how loudly she can crack her bones -- began writing songs in earnest; though she moved to London to pursue a career as a dancer at 17, and appeared in videos, she soon realized she really wanted to be a professional musician.
