Avicii Finishes As Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Artist Of 2014

It looks like Swedish DJ/producer Avicii is taking home Billboard's honor of the Top Dance/Electronic Music Artist of 2014.   He has 5 tracks on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Recap, and is the only artist to have more than one song on the Year End Top 10.  Additionally, True, Avicii's 2013 album, continues to chart strong as it maintains an overall rank of  #3 for the 2014 Dance/Electronic music album charts.

As far as what songs performed the best, Billboard writes:

Avicii's breakthrough "Wake Me Up!" single spent 26 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and finishes at No. 2 on the list's year-end recap. It stands behind only DJ Snake & Lil Jon's "Turn Down For What."

During the 2014 chart year -- which began with the Dec. 7, 2013-dated list and ran through the Nov. 29, 2014 chart -- "Wake Me Up!" clocked 15 weeks at No. 1. The song was so popular, its No. 1 reign was split into two chart years: 15 weeks at No. 1 in 2014 and 11 in 2013.

Avicii's second song in the top 10 of the year-end Hot Dance/Electronic Songs tally is "Hey Brother," which ranks at No. 7. It replaced "Wake Me Up!" at No. 1 on the weekly Dance/Electronic Songs chart in March, making Avicii the first act to replace itself at No. 1 in the young history of the list (the chart launched on Jan. 26, 2013).

Also interesting to note is that Disclosure ranked #4 on the Top Dance/Electronic Music acts behind Avicii, Calvin Harris, and Lady Gaga respectively. The soulful house duo continued their 2013 momentum both with their album Settle and their single "Latch" featuring Sam Smith.

Other notable house music tracks that performed well in 2014 was Kiesza's "Hideaway" and Clean Bandit's "Rather Be", both of which cracked the Dance/Electronic Top 10. Is this a sign of changing tastes in EDM?
