Fresh Selection: Oasis - Wonderwall ft. Katy McAllister (Monkey Joker Edit)
It is just a year shy of twenty years since this contemporary classic was released, and a young character by the name of Monkey Joker breathes a new life into a masterpiece of Britpop. Adding deep and tropical house element as well as a female vocalist, Monkey Joker has made this song his own. The work capitalizes upon the laudable songwriting of the original and relies only on barely perceptible foundations from the original.
The tone of the work changes, in my opinion, successfully to one of longing and loss, rather than a song about merely about adoring and unwavering love. I would say this imbues a shift that makes the work that much more engaging, also notably moving in a different direction than the original.
The real question now becomes, will the Gallagher brothers have anything to say about it? Not ones to shy away from confrontation, the least bit with each other, and outspokenly against dance music, it is a bold gesture by Monkey Joker to take on this tune and make it his own. Monkey Joker, bold moves pay off, and no matter what could be said, you made something special, so major respect for that!
