Magnetic is only as good as the people that write for it. So we have decided to start introducing you to our amazing contributors via our new series "Get To Know Magnetic." Please meet Magnetic Magazine Contributing Writer - Ashlee Rose.
How did you discover electronic dance music?
I stumbled across the legendary Paul Van Dyk, Oakenfold, and Carl Cox in 1999, and never looked back. Electronic dance music was rising in popularity in my area at that time, and I immersed myself in the culture, attending every event I could, whether it was locally or across the country. I loved the art of mixing two records together seamlessly, and spent so much time learning about the music and the artists behind it all. Things have changed quite a bit since back then, both musically and within the culture as a whole, but my love for the tunes hasn't. It'll be interesting to continue watching the evolution and growth of electronic dance music in the future!
What are your favorite genres and why?
I'm fiercely loyal to trance because that is where it all started for me. I also love any type of house music, it moves me and I think it's impossible not to feel it in your soul...
How did you come to write for Magnetic Magazine?
A friend linked me up with the magnificent Hannah after Mysteryland '14. She introduced me to Yosh, and the two of them have been nothing short of amazing to me during my time writing for the magazine. Both have been so helpful and I'm eternally grateful!
Best Magnetic Magazine Memory of 2014 (interview, festival, etc.)
Covering Above & Beyond at Madison Square Garden for #ABGT100 was a night I will remember for the rest of my life. I feel so privileged to have been able to witness such an iconic, history-making event. Definitely Moonrise in Baltimore as well. Interviewing Digital LAB, trying to finally catch up with Sander Van Doorn after a missed flight, being in contact and speaking with with some of the industry's best artists... That day was one I won't forget! Hopefully many more to come in 2015!
If you could have one goal in 2015, what would it be (Interview Hardwell, Marry Maya Jane Coles, Shave Steve Aoki’s head etc)?
My goal regarding Magnetic for 2015 is to interview my longtime fave Paul Van Dyk and not be a crazy fan-girl while doing so! Ha! On a serious note, I can't wait to talk with some new up-and-coming artists and put out great content for the readers of the mag! There's nothing better than pouring your soul out about something you truly love, and having people connect with you on that level and really get what you're trying to say. I look forward to reviewing some amazing new releases and albums as well, and putting my two cents out there for whoever cares to read it! 2015 will be quite the year!
