Something is missing...
Life In Color is described as the "world's largest paint party" for good reason. It tours across the world with some of electronic music's biggest artists, firing off canons of paint over crowds of thousands. But the party got started long ago in a familiar place - college. Namely, the Florida campus in 2006.
Both electronic music and the paint party have come a long way since then. We spoke with co-founder Patryk Tracz about the journey, other innovative scenes in the culture and his tips for creating your own world renowned music business.
How did you start your career in the electronic music business?
We started promoting clubs in Tallahassee. All of us were from Miami and loved EDM music. One day we booked an EDM DJ and it was a huge successful event. Once we started Life in color, we made sure it was only electronic music.
What is the best part of the business?
Best part is doing what you love! I don't call it going to work but my passion. We started a company with our friends and now run a full office with 30 employees.
What are the biggest challenges?
Working with your friends. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions and they become that much more difficult because of the relationships involved.
What career advice would you recommend to someone just starting off?
Follow your dreams, work harder than you have ever, surround your self with people that want it just as bad as you and eventually it will work out.
As the EDM industry continues to grow, what do you think the secrets to longevity in this business will be?
DJ prices need to come down!!!
Did you start off as a fan of electronic music and then became involved on the business side, or did business bring you into the electronic music world? Describe that process.
Started as a fan! We went to Ultra Music Festival with all of our friends and knew instantly that one day we wanted to throw festivals like that.
What does electronic music mean to you?
Means great vibes, good energy, people just having a good time. It's a culture.
What cities/regions do you think electronic dance music is best thriving?
I think it's thriving in all cities and regions. When we started and would bring Life in Color to a city like East Lansing MI, no one knew what EDM was, now all these kids know all the DJs. I feel like we are in a way the pioneers of EDM music to college kids, almost all of them say their 1st EDM event was Life in Color.
If you weren’t in the music biz, what would you be doing?
Professional Jed-I... Haha not sure, I had one goal, and it was to do this and nothing got in the way of it.
Where do you see the most innovation in the EDM industry (i.e. Music, experience, nightclubs, behind the scenes, etc) and why?
Festivals. Not only do you hear great Music but festivals like TomorrowWorld brings out the amazing production for an experience you will never forget.
As if it weren't big enough already, Life In Color is splashing down in Rio this weekend for the Rio Music Carnival. There's a lot more on the way too and you can check out the phase one tour lineup for 2015 below.
