April is one of my favorite months of the year in Denver for one simple reason - Coachella. You might be thinking to yourself, “Isn’t that in California?” and you would be right. However, the festival gives Denver the unique opportunity to bring in musical acts that are touring around the April festival dates that might not come to town all year.
Thursday, April 23rd was one of those unique opportunities come to life. Duke Dumont, one of the most talked about live DJ sets of Coachella was set to take on the decks at Club Vinyl for this special Thursday Night Edition of the Hundred Presents. The anticipation had been building for weeks before the show and the excitement was palpable that night. The tickets at the door were all gone and the sold out dance floor was packed with smiling faces ready for a fantastic night. And they were not disappointed.
Local duo Need and Necessity opened the night up with a great mix of deep grooves that got the floor churning into a glorious, feverish mess. 11PM rolled around and it was time for Duke Dumont to take the throne. Bringing the vibe on strong with the gorgeous steel drums of I Got U and kicking it into high gear with the lofty vocals of Wont Look Back got Vinly absolutely rocking. When he dropped into the rolling baseline of The Giver and blended into his remix of Relight’s 9TS the place went absolutely nuts. It was magical. Of course, the night could not be complete without the entire crowd singing along to Need U(100%) and solidifying the incredible vibe Duke Dumont brings to the stage and dance floor. Needless to say, it was one of the best electronic shows I’ve seen so far this year in Denver and I can't wait to see him again.
Denver… you didn't disappoint. Next stop. Canada.
