The Top Ten House Music chart is back after my brief absence this past month as I escaped to the North American wonderlands of music known as Winter Music Conference and Coachella. I was exposed to a plethora of top shelf house music and upon my return I was greeted by an email inbox full of equally high quality house music. Both Jamie Jones & Seth Troxler top my chart with definite contenders for tracks of the year along with new tunes from the likes of Steve Lawler, Oxia, & Super Flu. So dig in and lend me your ears for the best in what house music has to offer this week.
1. “Vermillion (Jamie Jones Pupkit Remix)” Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons, Crosstown Rebels
Jamie Jones sets a nearly perfect example of how a house music remix is done by keeping the original vocals by Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford perfectly intact while injecting his signature brand of minimal house music with the usual dash of melody and wonky effects.
"Vermillion" is Damian Lazarus' second single from his upcoming album, Message From The Other Side which finally sees a full digital release complete with the original and three remixes from some of the industry's finest including Deniz Kurtel, Agoria, & of course the WMC favorite as featured here by Jamie Jones.
2. “CZ” Seth Troxler, Tuskegee
The man who is arguably one of the underground's loudest voices may have just topped himself musically here with his newest track entitled "CZ" which is out now exclusively on vinyl and digitally on May 18th. Press play and get lost in seven minutes of this brilliant house music journey through acid, distortion, & melody.
3. “Looped” Kiasmos, Erased Tapes
The Icelandic duo known as Kiasmos first unleashed this avant-garde gem on their self-titled album late last year and it now sees an individual single release on the critically-acclaimed Erased Tapes imprint.
4. “LOVE” Eagles & Butterflies Ft J.U.D.G.E., Noir Music
Relatively new recording artist, Eagles & Butterflies makes his debut outing on Noir's own Noir Music with what is arguably not only his but the label's finest recording to date entitled "LOVE".
5. “Reckless (With Your Love) (Steve Lawler Remix)” Azari & III, Turbo Recordings
Steve Lawler brings the fire to the newest remix package for Azari & III's underground hit "Reckless (With Your Love)".
6. “Novi (OXIA Remix)” Daniel Trim, Glasgow Underground
The highly revered French producer known as OXIA steps in for remixing duties on the already gorgeous "Novi" and makes it a bit more ready for the dance-floor.
7. “Birth (Super Flu's Early Contractions)” Stephan Bodzin, Herzblut Recordings
The lead single from Stephan Bodzin's forthcoming album, Powers Of Ten gets an expected unconventional remix full of swirling melodies and water-like sound effects from the German duo known as Super Flu.
8. “Purple" Breach, Aus Music
The Dim Sum EP from Ben Westbeech's latest alias as Breach is a far reach into the outer territories of dance music and featured here is the most dance-floor friendly of three-track EP simply entitled, "Purple".
9. “Deep Inside (Low Steppa Remix)" Hardrive, Strictly Rhythm
Way back in 1993, Louie Vega scored a monster house music hit entitled "Deep Inside" 's as his alias Hardrive and it was a tune that no one could leave a club without hearing for about two years straight. It's been remixed countless times and here in 2015, it gets a new remix package which features this stellar re-work from UK bass-house newcomer Low Steppa.
10. “Raw Materials" Marquis Hawkes, Houndstooth
There's nothing more beautiful in dance music than when the two contrasting qualities of dreamy melodies lay as the backdrop to a punchy yet sophisticated drum section. This is out now everywhere both digitally and on vinyl through Fabric's own Houndstooth imprint.
