Gareth Emery is one of dance music’s most influential and innovative DJ producers, voted no.7 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll making him the UK’s highest ranked DJ, and one of the youngest DJs ever to crack the top ten. Emery was born in England although he also has Welsh heritage. He lived in Southampton until age 26 then relocated to Manchester, England where he has a studio and runs a night club and record label, both called Garuda. He has a degree in Politics from University of Warwick and is trained in classical piano. Prior to becoming involved in electronic music, he played guitar in a punk band in the mid-nineties. Emery has a distinctive production style that has been described as a fusion of trance, house and progressive. Although usually categorized as a trance DJ, he has often dismissed this label simply stating that he plays good records regardless of genre. In 2010, he released his debut artist album Northern Lights on his own label Garuda to stunning reactions from fans and critics alike, hitting no.1 on the US iTunes dance chart within hours of release. He also celebrated 100 episodes and four years of his award winning podcast, collaborated with Above & Beyond for the crossover international radio hit On A Good Day (Metropolis), and penned the theme tune of the Global Gathering festival, and still finding time to play 130 shows, selling out clubs and rocking festivals in 40 countries to more than two million people. Emery has released four mix CDs during his career: The Five AM Sessions (2005), The Podcast Annual (2007), The Sound of Garuda (2009), and The Sound of Garuda: Chapter 2 (2011). His Northern Lights album also contained one of his most successful tracks "Sanctuary," which was voted the 2nd biggest track of 2010 by listeners of Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance radio show, and then became the most played record of 2011 on US Sirius XM Radio dance station BPM. In 2011, a remixed edition of the album was released entitled Northern Lights Re-Lit with remixes by acts including Hardwell, Arty, Giuseppe Ottaviani, John O’Callaghan, Lange and Ashley Wallbridge. Since 2002, he has produced, remixed, or collaborated on some 90 tracks, with notable remixes for Britney Spears, Armin van Buuren, and Above & Beyond. In July 2012, Emery launched a syndicated radio show in North America called Gareth Emery Presents on the SiriusXM channel Electric Area (Channel 52).
