Orjan Nilsen bio

Ørjan Nilsen, born in Norway, had an interest in music at the age of one when he started banging on drum sets and was instructed by his father and brother for the first nine years of his life. At the age of seven, Ørjan got his first keyboard, and practiced on it every day for the next couple of years. One music style in particular caught his attention: trance. At the age of 16, Orjan got his very own synthesizer. He learned how to set up drums, basslines, melodies, strings and chords on his synth and then also how making music really worked. Ørjan Nilsen’s production career got off to a quick start and benefitted from the support of top tier DJs, particularly Armin van Buuren and his Armada record label group. Though he broke onto the scene with a hybrid Tech-Trance/Progressive sound, Nilsen’s productions have become more mainstream and less distinctive. At the end of 2004, Orjan had made several unofficial remixes and a couple of his own productions, that got the attention of trance-minded people in the trance.nu community. His tunes were now played on radio stations and in clubs all over the world, but nothing was, as of yet, signed by any label. It was in the summer of 2005 things started to take a new turn, when his remix of “Virunga - Simbabwe (DJ Governor’s Progmix)” was played on Playground by Danjo & Styles and then a bit later Yanave on his show Retinal Insight! In September 2005, Orjan made “Red Woods,” which blew away the minds of his friends and fellow producers. Since then Orjan has released a large number of dancefloor smartbombs like f.ex Arctic Globe which went straight into the number one spot on the Dutch Dance Charts. His tunes are played all over the world both live and broadcasted by the world’s biggest DJs such as Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, and Ferry Corsten. In 2006 Nilsen released his first signed vinyl – "Arctic Globe/Prison Break" on Intuition Recordings. "Arctic Globe" was voted #1 on the Dutch Dance Charts at that time. Since then, he has released a handful of prime level tracks including La Guitarra, Lovers Lane, and GO FAST! More recently Nilsen released multiple singles on the Armind Label (under Armin van Buuren's Armada Music), including 2012's “Lucky Strike/Legion” and “Amsterdam.”
