We are just past the Summer Solstice which means one of two things. Either, you are you are gearing up for a raucous festival season or you are getting ready to just simply chill. Whichever path you choose to take this season, you can count on the ever-versatile genre of house music to guide you either way so keep on supporting your favorite artists and/or your events throughout the season. In the meantime, simply lend your eyes and ears to my latest compilation of the ten best tracks that house music has to offer this week.
1. “XTC” DJ Koze, Pampa Records
It's quite rare for a producer to ever achieve nearly perfect beauty in the composition of electronic music. However, it has in fact been done by others in the past such as Moby with his early 90's trailblazing techno hit "Go", Jam & Spoon with the absolutely gorgeous "Stella", 808 State with their the groundbreaking masterpiece "Pacific", and even more recently Pachanga Boys with the ethereal "Time". Fast-forward to now and DJ Koze has achieved the same results with his latest production, "XTC" which is a steady-building, dreamy affair that features a spoken word of a woman accounting her own personal philosophical experience with the aforementioned substance. Press play and be prepared to float away.
2. “June” Miss Kittin & Nicolas Masseyeff, Mobilee Records
Anja Schneider's Mobilee imprint unleashes yet another stellar release this year and this time it's from electro-royalty Miss Mittin who has teamed up with Nicolas Masseyeff for an acid roller that features a dreamy vocal breakdown from Miss Kittin herself.
3. “Let It Happen (Luca Cazal Edit)” Tame Impala, Free Download
Tame Impala's big tune of the year "Let It Happen" gets a cheeky dance-floor edit from Luca Cazal and it's available as a free download for a limited time through Luca Cazal's Soundcloud page.
4. “Dwayne Young” Frits Wentink, Bobby Donny
Frits Wentink's Live Fast Dwayne Young EP is out now strictly on vinyl via his brand new imprint Bobby Donny.
5. “Walk” Dan Shake & Medlar, Delusions Of Grandeur
Dan Shake is not only known for his off kilter style of house music but he's also known for having the honor to be the only non-Detroit native to ever release music on Kenny Dixon Jr's fabled Mahogani Music imprint. Here he teams up with Medlar for more deep Detroit style house music on the well-respected Delusions Of Grandeur.
6. “My Game” PBR Streetgang, Toy Tonics
The UK duo that is PBR Streetgang make their debut on the German imprint Toy Tonics with the Move On EP and the highlight of the release for me is this unbelievably feel-good tune entitled "My Game".
7. “So Real (Mike Millrain Remix)” Low Steppa Feat. Kelli Leigh, AATW Records
Low Steppa's absolutely infectious "So Real" sees a remix package that features the Mike Millrain remix which impeccably retains all the melody while still giving the tune new life as well.
8. “Bangbao” Aussteiger, Exploited
"Bangbao" by Aussteiger expertly samples Gang Starr's "Mass Apeal" and it's out now digitally on the 12th edition of the Black Jubox series via Exploited!
9. “Orme Track” S3A, Concrete Music Paris
Parisian DJ & producer Max Fader inks his latest production under the S3A alias on Concrete Music's latest Textures series, 3PM. This is out now exclusively on vinyl!
10. “Cork” Ashworth, Needwant
London's Joe Ashworth who goes simply by Ashworth first popped up on my radar about mid last year when he released The Scale EP which featured the stunning beauty of a tune entitled "Boa". However, he has been busy making a legitimate name for himself in the dance music world for about the past couple of years with some serious underground hitters on labels like Anjunadeep, Arkhive London, W&O Street Tracks, & of course his newest release "Cork" on Needwant as featured here in the top ten house tracks of the week.
