This year's inaugural CRSSD Fest may have been one of the most successful festival debuts in recent times, matching a stellar lineup and an incredible venue with down-to-earth crowd vibes. So it's no surprise that Goldenvoice and FNGRS CRSSD are introducing a fall incarnation of the festival with teeming pools of great music, ranging from Jamie xx and Zhu to Maya Jane Colesand Todd Terje.
Most unexpected booking: The Flaming Lips? By snagging the psychedelic rock icons as their festival's leading headliner, not only are CRSSD looking to make a statement about getting higher-profile acts, but they also seem to be moving into Lightning in a Bottle's jam-bandtronica fusion niche. Either way, these rockers will bring a roaring set, begging the question: will there be an ultimate showdown of set-time conflicts between The Flaming Lips and Jamie xx? Only time will tell.
Ben Klock will bring the City Steps down: The Berlin native and Berghain resident made his way to Coachella this year for a floorblasting hour at the Yuma tent, and now CRSSD has booked him for a rare (at least in the USA) headlining set. Expect a performance that's relentless and ferocious, like this Boiler Room from 2013, which features Grimes and Nina Kravitz dancing and jamming out alongside the mix.
Bonobo's going to have a good time: Bonobo is known for making electronic music come to life with live instruments, but his DJ sets are super-vibey as well, as he proved when he went B2B with Chet Faker to close The Do LaB during Coachella's second weekend. Who knows what he's going to play at CRSSD this year?
Lots of people will discover Bicep: The boys from Belfast have been steadily gaining support, but still remain an undercard act.
Overall, we expect CRSSD will further define itself through this second edition as it evolves into more than an electronic-centric festival in the vein of FYF. Tickets go on sale at the official CRSSD festival website on Friday, July 17, at 12 PM PST.
