Top 10 Tropical House / Chill Tracks - Chart 7.24.15

Top 10 Tropical House / Chill Tracks - Chart 7.23.15

On the Polo Fields of Indio this past April, I heard a pasty man with a guitar strapped to him under the glow of soft blue light scream to the crowd, “Music is sacred!” Well I may be a more simple man than Mr. Jack White but I know what Music is - Music is everything.

I grew up on roadtrip albums and soundtracks as the glue that kept the doors of our van from popping off from three kids squabbling in the back. My mom raised us belting out every word to John Denver’s “Country Road Take Me Home”, Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” and the full soundtrack to Fiddler on the Roof. Whether it was watching my brother Will teach himself finger-style guitar, jumping on the bed with my sister Kate singing the Lizzie McGuire soundtrack at the top of our lungs, or DJing middle school lunches with my opening track “Rockafellar Skank” every damn time; music has been there from boy to man.

Almost a year ago, while listening to The Flaming Lips rock Outside Lands my friend and fellow writer Kirk Williams brought up an idea. He asked me to join him at Magnetic Mag after seeing my love for making playlists and knowing I had a hunger to write. Well forty charts later here I am coming in hot as ever. In two weeks my brother Will and I will be headed back to SF for our fourth Outside Lands together and this time is something special. We’ll be doing a written and photo review of the whole experience, our first piece together. It has all truly come full circle and I’m excited to share it with you all soon...oh...and here’s some awesome tropical house and chill tracks to get your weekend in hammock mode. Enjoy!

"Shelter ft. Alex Mills"
Real talk though for a sec and then back to dancing, this song stays on repeat or I’m gonna lose my shit. I ain’t lying either, this song has been making its rounds all day the last week and I’ve been sharing it with everyone. Alex Mills’ voice makes me want to ask her father for her hand in marriage and Tobtok is laying down tracks for a bullet train that leads to the greatest paradise on planet YES. It’s got soul, it’s got a killer beat and it’s got my vote for top tune of the week.

Bag Raiders
Modular Recordings
The Bag Raiders got a brand new bag baby. Its full of 3 songs and it also goes by the name of a new EP, Waterfalls. Their previously released singles have been bumping but their final treat is truly beautiful. “Wonderland” is well named and a synth sundae with a crisp echoing vocal cherry on top. It will be one of the anthems of your summer.

"Shine (Jax Jones Remix)"
Years & Years
The hottest album of the year came out twos week ago with Years & Years dropping their freshman firestarter, Communion, and with it came a looming onslaught of remixes and reedits. First up on the decks is London’s Jax Jones and I think he’s set the bar out of reach for the others. Everyone just give up, this stuff is what dance party’s dreams are made of.

"Yeah Yeah Yeah (Roosevelt Remix)"
Jax Jones
I’m vibin on this Jax Jones bro so lets keep up the momentum and say hello to this Roosevelt remix of his funkified single “Yeah Yeah Yeah”. Loving the zippin synths of the original and the chilled out glimmering-synthed, bongo-tinged take on one of my new favorite tracks. Jax is releasing the single to the world on Friday so get it on your mixes before the summer runs out.

"What Should I Do (Delamare & ALMOND Remix)"
Jaymes Young
ALMOND and Delamare just knows how to do summer right. The irony of Jaymes Young singing about the summer being done is hilarious since this is bongos having a spasm and a glowing arrangement of tropical house’s finest. This track is delicious trop pop and once you trop pop the fun don’t stop.

"Thinking Of You (De Hofnar Remix)"
Lex Anton
With this simmering sunshine house bumper De Hofnar tells us a remixed tale of that babe we all know, laying in the sun together, hugging sand, bobbing in the waves wrapped up in each other, baking and drinking and kissing, damn is it a beautiful image. He’s got a new remix dropping with the homie Sam Feldt soon and they promise it’s of one of their trop brethren. Gimme, NOW.

Suzanne Kraft
Tycho brought me here. Isn’t that what the cool kids say on YouTube or something. But seriously, he has a blog that is full of his favorites which are quickly becoming my favorites and this track by the incredibly talented Suzanne Kraft is mesmerizing in its groove and incredible layering. This is what I’m all about and it’ll hypnotize you happy I promise.

”Tongue Tied July”
Michael Brun x Roy English
This song has a simple message - no words, just dance. Michael Brun is quickly catapulted to the top of heap with this extremely polished melodic house beat with sexy vocals and an underlying paradise scent. The pairing with Roy English is magnifique madness and these guys need to keep up the momentum with a follow up soon.

"Still In Love (INSTRUM Remix)"
INSTRUM was given one of JAHKOY’s roses to be on his remix EP for this R&B sexifier single, maybe because they both capitalize all their letters but I think it’s because he knew he had that cruising electronic vibe he wanted. Its never too much digital and just enough dance. This is going to make those pool parties a lot of fun over the rest of summer. Should we go to Vegas right now?

"All I See"
Ultra Music
With a sense of jazzy soul like Claptone and composition skills that you can only have with the right ear, young jackLNDN is making some damn beautiful music. Feel the pulse of the dancefloor when his new track “All I See” comes on and I think you’ll realize how alive his sound is. With this release on Ultra it is clear that this groover is moving with explosive growth in the right circles. Want to know whats also nuts...he SINGS this song. Enjoy amigos.
