PENRITH, AUSTRALIA - At Defqon 1 in Australia a 26 year old man was found unconscious in his tent at 11:30 PM.
His friends tried to revive him before paramedics arrived. He was then transported to Nepean hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"[Friends and family] live with the scars for the rest of their life," said Detective Inspector Grant Healey who warned of drug abuse. "Quite often they are the ones doing first aid, watching their friends pass away. So if you're taking those drugs, just remember they don't just affect you."
On the Defqon 1 website they state that there is a zero tolerance policy when it comes to drug use. The festival's "highest priority during is to create a memorable and above all safe Defqon. 1 experience for everyone who comes to party with us". The massive festival attracts thousands from all over the country for a hardstyle celebration.
"Festivals and dance parties aren't the problem, it's people making poor adult decisions that are the problem," Detective Inspector Healey said.
9 individuals were taken to the Nepean hospital by paramedics.
Local police made it a focus to find drugs at this years event and a total of 60 people were arrested, 46 being drug related. Defqon 1 organizers gave their full support to authorities during their operation.
