After seeing Basement Jaxx at the Hollywood Bowl, I recall the dancers emerging around the stands around “Mermaid of Salinas”, immersing you in the salsa dance. It's a track off their 2014 album Junto, which saw them returning to roots and making house designed to dance once again.
The Jaxx did their own Brazillian-twinged rework, “Mermaid of Bahia”, in honor of the World Cup last year, and now Eden Price puts forth this big-room take that retains the lively spirit of the original but makes it more accessible for certain clubs.
It's one of the first releases from Michael Brun's new label Kid Coconut, and it shows a strong ability to live between styles of house. I can already tell this Eden Price rework will smash a lot of clubs at the right moment.
