Given the emotional texture of this week's top ten chart, it would be safe to say that house music is definitely heading straight towards an evolved art form where melody and experimentation take precedence over the classic formula that we all cherish. Some of those key innovators featured in the chart are Alex Niggemann, Marco Resmann, the always amazing Max Cooper, and of course my number one pick of the week by the captivating Rodriguez Jr!
1. “Chrysalism” Rodriguez Jr., Mobilee Records
Olivier Mateu aka Rodriguez Jr. makes a triumphant return to the stellar Mobilee imprint with the Chrysalism EP and I've featured the title track as my number one tune of the week. Picture yourself on the beach in Ibiza, no wait how about at your favorite local underground at 5am. Better yet, how about at Burning Man watching the sun rise over the playa. After all, it's probably being played somewhere in Black Rock City right now as you are reading this.
2. “Dahlia” Bicep & Hammer, Feel My Bicep
The fifth ever release on the Feel My Bicep imprint comes from the label-heads themselves, Bicep along with Rory Hamilton aka Hammer. Yet another tune in the chart reserved specifically for those magical "close your eyes" moments.
3. “Still There (Max Cooper Remix)” Landside, Just This
The Landside Part 1 EP is a brand new collaboration between Hunter/Game and the Icelandic duo Kúra. It is Landside's premiere release and it features a brilliant rework of "Still There" by the illustrious producer, Max Cooper!
4. “Leaving The Comfort Zone” Andre Lodemann, Innervisions
Innervisions may just be the most reliable electronic music imprint on the planet and their latest outing by Germany's Andre Lodemann only helps solidify this.
5. “Virgo” Alex Niggemann, Last Night On Earth
Germany's Alex Niggemann makes his debut on Sasha's coveted Last Night On Earth imprint with an EP entitled Virgo which also features a fine re-rub by the duo known as Fur Coat!
6. “Philosophy” Mattia Pompeo, Underground Audio
Italian-born, Valencia-based producer, Mattia Pompeo turns in a deep & progressive production packed with drama & psychadelia.
7. “Sport De Glisse” Gab Rhome, Natura Sonoris
With Gab Rhome's latest gorgeous & dreamy outing entitled Matterhorn, it's easy to see why the Canadian native has already recorded for some of the best electronic music institutions on the planet such as Last Night On Earth, All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, & now of course on Henry Saiz' well-respected outfit Natura Sonoris.
8. “0.16” SAAND, Dilate Records
Given the fact that I'm born & raised in LA, I am always pleased to present coverage to a well-deserved homegrown artist such as Michael Sandler aka SAAND who features here in my top ten chart this week.
9. “Paunk (Marco Resmann Remix)” Piek, Sincopat
Upon. You Records label boss Marco Resmann does his unconventional magic with Piek's "Paunk" which is out now on the Sincopat imprint.
10. “OMEN (Jonas Rathsman Remix)” Disclosure ft. Sam Smith, Island Records
No, you are not experiencing deja vu. Jonas Rathsman has in fact done an outstanding job of remixing Sam Smith once again. Last year, he did wonders with "Like I Can" and now he has given "OMEN" a dramatic, yet dancefloor friendly touch up. Jonas Rathsman's remix of "OMEN" is out now strictly on itunes for now.
