Who To See at The 2nd Annual Cloak and Dagger Music Festival Denver

Fall is, by far, my favorite season of the year here in Denver. The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting a little chillier and the dance floors are heating up all over the city. Around the country, festival season is slowly coming to an end but here in the Mile High City the music and festivals seemingly never stop.

In just over a weeks time, the 2nd Annual Cloak and Dagger Music festival will be gracing multiple stages within the SoCo District of Denver on September 19th with some amazing international and local dance music. The lineup last year was absolutely spectacular for its inaugural year, with names like Cashmere Cat, Justin Martin, Kidnap Kid, Martyn and Midland with a back to back set, and Moonboots. This year is just as stacked but has done a fantastic job of promoting the sound of Denver with some awesome local talent stepping up. Not only that, there is an official pre-party of epic proportions featuring the one and only Nicolas Jaar two days before Cloak and Dagger on September 17th that is sure to set the tone for the festival.

Here is a little preview of some of the unbeatable music the Cloak and Dagger Music Festival has to offer this year in Denver and don’t forget to check out their Facebook page for details and lineup on this year’s Cloak and Dagger Dallas edition!

Four Tet
This is a man that needs no introduction. He has been absolutely unstoppable these last few years and his production is unmatched within the electronic world. This will be the first time he has come to Denver and it is an understatement when I say that this is a special moment for the city. If you see only one set during the festival, this has to be it.

Michael David and Tyler Blake aka Classixx have been making the festival rounds the past couple years with their live set in support of their album Hanging Gardens. I had the pleasure of catching them at Coachella last year and was blown away by their performance. Equally impressive are their DJ skills and this is sure to be one of those sets that has people talking for weeks after.

Some of you might know him better by his other alias Trippy Turtle, but Lido and his live set simply cannot be missed. He gorgeously mixes emotional melodies over some of the best hip-hop, glitch, and future bass beats around. Even though he won’t have a 53 piece orchestra with him during Cloak and Dagger, this Youtube clip shows his musical genius at work. Beyond excited to see his musicianship on display in Denver and you should be too!

Crazy P Soundsystem
Through 7 albums and well over a decade Crazy P Soundsystem members Danielle Moore, Jim Baron, and Chris Todd have been cranking out top-notch UK house and disco. With all those years of making great music, they have built quite a following and with nu disco sounds gaining a ton of popularity as of late there is sure to be funk-heads out in force for this set. Denver is definitely ready for Crazy P to bring that soulful sound to Cloak and Dagger! This track is one off of their latest album Walk Dance Talk Sing and is one I’m dying to hear live.

Danny Marin
This man has been in the electronic scene throughout Colorado for years and has a special place in dance music in Denver. As well as DJing, Danny also puts on numerous after-hours parties around the city that plays host to the best up and comers in Denver. He also teaches at the Global DJ Academy here, so the guy obviously can throw down an amazing set. It will be an absolute privilege to see his skills at work along side these international headliners and maybe even teach them a thing or two about how Denver gets down!

Another UK heavy hitter, Michael Dodman aka Huxley has been producing tracks with heavy bass driven rhythms and a UK Garage feel for years within the house music scene. The last time he was in Denver was March of 2014 and the city has been patiently awaiting his return. The energy during his sets is relentless and his deep bass grooves mixed with that Garage feel is what puts him in a league if his own in this festival lineup.

The Gaslamp Killer
Low End Theory co-founder The Gaslamp Killer is one of those sets that you walk away from and ask yourself, “What just happened to me?”. His music is completely unique and visceral, fusing together every genre of music you can think of into one energetic, freeform set. Middle Eastern string sounds layered over hard hitting hip-hop beats showcase just how eclectic and expansive his music tastes can be. He was here in Denver at the beginning of the year at the 1up on Colfax and put on an absolutely killer show and I expect his set at Cloak and Dagger to be even better! This mix really displays his one-of-a-kind sound.

Sweater Beats
This guy came to my attention a few years ago through the HW&W and Soulection families out of California and has been unstoppable in the future bass and R&B game as of late. The past year has been a whirlwind for him, playing every festival you could think of and touring with Chet Faker and Chance the Rapper around North America promoting his EP Cloud City released through HW&W. Dark Matter off of that EP is a good preview of what to expect during his set, straight baby makin music that will have everyone grindin on the floor.

This is the man that brought this whole festival together a year ago. Brennen Bryarly aka Option4 has been curating some of the best house music events in Denver for the past few years and Cloak and Dagger is no exception. He also has been producing top notch house for over a decade and has been hard at work all year on a ton of releases set to come out very, very soon. Denver is blessed to have such a tireless, selfless guy like Option4 to bring it great events like Cloak and Dagger and amazing talent like the ones Ive previewed above!

Cant wait to see all of your beautiful faces getting down all day and night to some of the best house music around at Cloak and Dagger in Denver on September 19th. Thanks for reading and, as always, Ill see you on the dance floor!
