Today: Apple's decision to expand Apple Music to China adds potentially a billion new users to its market potential.
New subscribers are offered a three month-free trial followed by a subscription of 10 yuan ($1.57) per month. That’s just a bit cheaper than India’s Apple Music price of 120 rupees ($1.83) per month. In comparison, US users pay $9.99 a month for the subscription, while UK users pay the most for Apple Music at £9.99 ($15.16) a month.
"Customers in China love the App Store and have made it our largest market in the world for app downloads," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "One of the top requests has been more great content and we're thrilled to bring music, movies and books to China, curated by a local team of experts."
Apple has announced that there are "millions" of songs in Apple Music's catalog for the Chinese market, including numerous prominent and local artists. Will Apple Music take over the streaming services already in place in China? Only time will tell.
