Earlier this week Jamie Hewlett, the Gorillaz visual designer, revealed that a new Gorillaz LP is in the works. We're still not sure when to expect it, but in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Damon Albarn confirmed he is working hard on new material.
"I'm in the very early days on a new Gorillaz record. So far, it's really fast, and it's got quite a lot of energy."
"Really fast" Gorillaz sounds interesting and might be a bit different than their work in the past. He's still not sure where he wants to take their sound but Albarn, the songwriter and frontman for Gorillaz, will no doubt produce something exciting.
"I've been stuck on piano, somewhere off Broadway, for years now. I want to go somewhere completely opposite of that."
Hopefully this doesn't mean he's having writers block. It's been nearly 5 years since we got a taste of new Gorillaz material and fans might be getting restless. Albarn is currently slated to perform a couple major gigs with Blur, one at NYC's Madison Square Garden and another at LA's Hollywood Bowl. 2016 may be the year for a Gorillaz return, we'll keep you posted.
