Winter has never been great for sneakers, especially in harsher climates like Chicago and NYC. So what's a sneaker head to do?
Vans has dropped their new holiday collection featuring their updated Mountain Edition sneaks or MTEs. What are MTEs you may ask? These are the beefed up sneaks you've been looking for that can withstand the elements and keep your feet warm at the same time. The uppers are treated with Scotchgard to push away the rain/slush, the soles are beefed up to prevent slipping and they have a heat retention layer between the sockliner and outsole to keep your dogs warm.
We put these to the test down in LA for a couple days to see how they held up. Yes it does actually get rainy and cold down in LA so shssssh. The fit was was similar to the normal Sk8-Hi but you immediately notice how much warmer they are. The shoe feels a bit more substantial as well, like it really can handle the elements. Mud wipes off pretty easily and water beaded up and slid off the uppers. You are not going to skate in these but then again that's not really the point of this model. These are one of our new favorite winter shoes and one of our top holiday gift items this season.
So maybe if you are lucky Santa will bring you a pair of these for Christmas, hell he's probably rocking a pair himself in Santa Red with white stripes. Check out the gallery below for some of our favorite styles.
