A FUNKY EXHIBITION: Two Day Photography Show In Shoreditch
From the 1950s and on through the 1990s, before the time of the DSLR and the HD smartphone camera, there was the golden era of film photography covering music’s iconic figures. Epic moments of musicians in their element were captured through film, representing and preserving the time period. Many have said film photography has become a dying art form, however, William Benrubi has curated an exhibition of his own black and white film works that breathe new life into the medium. Featuring photos of legendary funk musicians and DJ’s, he reminds us just how amazing the analogue art form is and has always been.
Presented by Special Breed & Brooklyn Brewery, A Funky Exhibition, will be a two day solo exhibition of photographs to be hosted at the 5th Base Gallery in Shoreditch, London, featuring all black and white shots of legendary funk musicians like CHIC feat. Nile Rogers, some of the funkiest DJ's in the game such as Soul Clap and Gilles Peterson, along with producers such as Detroit electro-soul star, GRiZ. The exhibition pays homage to the great funk music that has been produced over the years paired with the iconic photography that has surrounded it.
Will has provided Magnetic Magazine with an exclusive sneak preview of a few of the photographs that will be on display, check them out:
Be sure to make plans for the opening reception party of A Funky Exhibition on Wednesday, December 9th from 6:30PM-9:30PM, as the artist Will Benrubi will be present, along with some of London's finest local DJs, Miss Soxee & Don Pascal, spinning all vinyl sets, plus complimentary wine and Brooklyn Lager from Brooklyn Brewery!
