At a time when dance music is going through commercialization, DEMUR attempts to revitalize the scene. The unknown artist decided to take the matter into his own hands by remixing Nirvana’s 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. His goal was to pay homage to the group for redefining the culture when it was mainly dominated by Glam Metal.
“The parallels between today's "big room" dance music and the cheesy glam metal of the late 80's are all too similar. That's why I chose to remix Smells Like Teen Spirit, I wanted to homage what Nirvana had accomplished in their day and hopefully reignite the spark of what they did in their time, in the present.”
With guitar riff variations and dubstep inspired breaks, DEMUR creates a diverse sound and establishes an atmosphere in which any rock, electronic, or 90s enthusiast could get into. Along with that, the simplicity of this remix keeps the originality of the track without straying too far off, which can potentially be a fan favorite in many months to come. His attempt to pay homage to the group while innovating the genre seems to be working as it’s receiving much praise from listeners and producers alike.
