Red Bull Sound Select is not just for producing music, it's a program that allows musicians to work together in order to create art.
'Skipping Stones', the newest collaborative track by Gallant, Jhene Aiko, Adrian Younge and Stint is nothing short of delicious. Gallant proves once again that he has an incredible range in his vocals while Jhene continues to amaze us with her harmonies, lyrics, and overall aura on every track.
When listening to this track, the instrumental clearly stands out. Adrian and Stint are throwing it back big time with the soul essence on this one. Real drums, real bass, real Rhodes, real brass (from what I can tell) and other instruments that I can’t even pick out. Everything sounds so natural, layered and perfect. It’s so refreshing to hear something that’s organic and not full of 808s (although I do love me some 808s). Nevertheless, Younge and Stint have composed the purest backdrop for Gallant and Jhene to paint their vocals over.
The emotion alone in both their voices makes me want to start thinking about that girl I saw on the bus 10 years ago. I am blown away by how both Gallant and Jhene have approached this track so individually unique, yet complimentary in a brilliant way. There is nothing that finds my sweet spot more than male falsetto. From the first couple of notes Gallant has me hooked, his range is really that impressive.
I’m not too sure if octaves is in this guy’s vocabulary because he can literally sing any note, Jhene however keeps her verse really cool and smooth. She brings a certain calmness to this track that balances out Gallant’s rawness for the perfect blend. It is the music equivalent to mastering the perfect cocktail.
If you’re in love, going through a hard time or just want to listen to good music, this will relate to you in every way. Take a listen below.
