We got the chance to chat with the burgeoning producer to get a better understanding of his unique musical vision. He's ready to take his sound to the next level and will surely be setting more trends has his career blossoms.
How do you see music evolving this year?
I hope to see a lot of genre-less music. I think right now is the era of experimenting and doing crazy stuff, and listeners want to be surprised with new sounds!
What elements from other forms of music have impacted your style?
I listen to a lot of classical music, it totally expands my vision and mind. Classical music is so melodic and story-like and I'm definitely trying to incorporate these things into my music. Other than that I listen to rock, hip-hop, trance, folk, and so on. There's something in every style that i can appreciate and I think it's very important to stay open minded about music in general. My aim is to try not to listen to genres, but to listen to the actual music.
How did the Yellow Claw collaboration come to fruition?
We're both from the Netherlands and I've been in contact with the YC guys for a while. I built this really experimental song but really needed some fitting vocals to finish it up. They sent me some cool stuff and after some editing "Alright" was born. OWSLA really liked the tune and ended up putting it on their Worldwide Broadcast Compilation, which is awesome.
What's the most important thing you learned from during your music career?
Touring the world changed me a lot in terms of perspective on life in general. I used to try and understand everything around me, I wanted to be able to put everything into words. Now I've realized that so many things can't be put into words. They just are. I'm cool with that now.
What are some of your goals for this year?
My goal for this year is to expand my musical universe and introduce lots of people to it. I really have the urge to have a very distinct sound. I will be releasing music on my label bitbird soon, which is going to be a big step towards building this new musical universe.
