With the presidential race heating up, candidates are looking to get all the support they can from voter prospects. Senator Bernie Sanders is very much aware of this and is looking to tap into the counter culture. His newest target, the jam band, hippie, music festival demographic, as he recently issued praise for the iconic band known simply as Phish.
Phish band members have already shown support for the Democratic presidential candidate, helmed by drummer John Fishman and bassist Mike Gordon. At the rally in Portland, Maine, Fishman opened up the event with a special performance, joined by the Kenya Hall Band. Before Sanders went into his speech for the evening, he thanked Fishman, calling him "one of Vermont's heroes," and declaring Phish as "one of the great bands in this country.”
“John and Phish have made New England proud. They are one of the great bands, have been one of the great bands in this country.”
