First Batch of New Technics 1200 Sells Out in Just 30 Minutes

The Japanese market scooped up the new limited edition turntable regardless of the hefty price tag

Technics released the first batch of limited edition SL-1200GAE turntables yesterday in Japan and the 300 units sold out in 30 minutes.

Japanese buyers were eager to get their hands on the 50th anniversary edition Technics turntable, even with the high price tag of ¥356,400, or just under approximately $3,300.

A representative for Panasonic told Sankei Shimbun: “I didn’t think the price was too high as we have confidence in our brand, but I didn’t expect them to sell out so quickly.”

Those still looking to make a purchase of the limited edition model don't have to worry just yet as another 900 units are expected to be made available for international sales. Although, there is no timetable for when that might be. 

Technics announced the 1200 revival back in January, but it's huge price tag raised concern for vinyl enthusiasts. A more affordable version is still being considered.
