June is here which means summer has arrived, it's festival season and here at Traxsource we’re looking forward to those long summer evenings and hot summer nights full of house music. June 2016 is shaping up to be a bumper month for quality releases, so here is this month’s Traxsource.com pick of the bunch.
Find all releases on Traxsource.com
First up is Lovebirds (Freerange, Defected, Teardrop Music), the solo project of Sebastian Doering. Sebastian previously found fame as one half of the successful house duo Knee Deep as well as recording under the names Superbird and TBA. June sees the follow-up to ‘Want You in My Soul’, his big Stee Downes collaboration, with ‘Love’s Like Dancin’ which drops on Teardrop Music at the end of the month and will no doubt be setting dance floors alight just like its predecessor. We are also very pleased to have Lovebirds in as one of our guests on Traxsource LIVE! this June.
2. Marquis Hawkes
Berlin based House soldier Marquis Hawkes (Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Clone Jack for Daze, Aus), returns in June with his debut long player ‘Social Housing’ on Houndstooth dropping June 10th. ‘Social Housing’ features 12 sparkling tracks of genre-bending tech-funk, taking in Deep, Soulful and Jacking House, Nu Disco and all points in between - and it features a guest vocal appearance from soul legend Jocelyn Brown.
3. Eli Escobar
Two super-hot releases from New York DJ/Producer Eli Escobar this month. First up on the 7th June comes Eli’s brilliantly atmospheric re-rub of Ricardo Baez’s ‘Tribute to L’ on Night People NYC. Then we have the ‘Phreeky’ EP coming on 13th June, a heavy-hitting, disco-tinged two tracker, which has found a suitably sophisticated home on Classic Music Company. We are also very pleased to have Eli playing for us at Defected’s 5 day festival extravaganza 'Defected Croatia', where Traxsource.com hosts the legendary Barbarella's. Joining Eli on the night will be Honey Dijon, Session Victim, Fred Everything and Luke Solomon.
Consummate Techno and House Producer/DJ Deetron gets on our list this month thanks to his huge remixes of Mathias Kaden’s ‘Soulmakers’ via his ‘Energetic Remixes Pt. 2”. Based around a fabulously lolling, wonky riff, Deetron turns in a main mix, a dub and a ‘Bassapella’ mix too. The package is completed by 3 more of Mathias’ tracks which get the re-rub treatment from UNER, Daniel Stefanik and Pulshar. Released June 3rd.
5. Jaymo & Andy George
Great news for Moda Black fans. The forward-thinking label is releasing ‘Moda Black Volume IV' this month on 24th June, featuring 12 of the freshest-sounding, brand new tracks that we’ve heard for a while. Jaymo and Andy themselves contribute two tracks including their superb ‘Just An Edit’ cut. Other artists and remixers include Groove Armada, Huxley, Zeké Africa, IDAMOS, Theo Kottis, Izzy Demzky, and Maxxi Soundsystem. The Moda Black series has been hugely popular as it not only unleashes some of the labels finest tunes, but also showcases hot new emerging artists too. Volume IV is no exception.
DJ/Producer Tapesh (Snatch!, Rebirth, Defected, Toolroom, Noir, etc.) unveils his new release on W&O Street Tracks at the beginning of June. The ‘Control’ EP consists of two relentless Tech House tracks in Tapesh’s signature futuristic style. Tapesh’s profile has been steadily rising recently, helped no doubt by the debut release of his excellent 3 track ‘Panus Fasciatus’ EP last month on his brand new label Akulee.
7. Golf Clap
The ever reliable Golf Clap (Hugh Cleal and Bryan Jones) are continuing their 2016 winning streak with a brand new collaborative EP with Mike Millrain, titled ‘Forget the Past’, on their own Country Club Disco imprint. Following their big successes this year on Simma Black, Eskape Music and Four40 Records amongst others, ‘Forget the Past’ is a fat slab of clinically funky House music which comes in its original mix and two tasty re-rubs courtesy of Skapes and Mike Millrain himself. You can also catch Golf Clap on Traxsource LIVE! on June 3rd.
8. Art Of Tones
Peerless producer Ludovic Llorca, better known in House Music circles as Art of Tones, is not only one of June’s guests for Traxsource LIVE!, but is also currently riding high following the big success of his ‘Devil the Difference’ EP (House of Disco) and his frankly brilliant remix of Mona Lazette’s ‘Pressure Pressure’ (Toy Tonics). June also sees the release of his ‘I Just Can’t’ EP on Local Talk featuring two killer cuts, perfectly engineered for the dance floor.
9. Illyus & Barrientos
Glasgow duo Ilyus & Barrientos (Glasgow Underground, Anjunabeats, Toolroom) are back with a massive glittering disco-ball of a track in the shape of ‘Strings’ on Glasgow Underground. Symphonic strings and seventies synth toms meld perfectly with precision beats and vocal snippets to great effect and ‘Strings’ even comes with a deeper mix from Kevin McKay too.
Alessandro Alaska, better known as Flashmob (Moon Harbour, Objektivity, DFTD, Viva, Avotre) is back this month with another killer EP, this time on quality imprint Lapsus music. ‘Now Is’ EP by Flashmob featuring C /\ R L consists of three original tracks and a firing Luna City Express remix, all in that distinctive Tech House style we have come to expect.
So another month, another collection of high-quality dance floor weapons to delight you and to work your dance floors into a sweat. It’s going to be a good summer!
