In a recent interview on Night Owl Radio, Bassnectar sat down for a chat with Insomniac Events founder Pasquale Rotella to talk about his musical future among other things. Little did we expect, a special surprise announcement was the focus, that Bassnectar is the official "Resident DJ" at Electric Forest. What this means is that the king of bass will headline the festival each year, along with the festival's staple band, The String Cheese Incident.
When talking abut the announcement, Bassnectar had this to say:
"After last year, you asked if I would come in as an official resident, just to play each year, and I haven’t really done that officially for any festival yet, but I just kind of felt like there was nowhere else that felt like home for that."
This is definitely exciting news for bassheads as Bassnectar's Electric Forest sets are a thing of legend. Plus the festival's main acts always deliver sets that stand out as truly unique to the Forest's distinct atmosphere.
But to play devils advocate, it's important to note that some Bassnectar fans have been known to be unruly and insensitive to fans of other music at festivals. Some may remember last year's Electric Forest when Bassnectar fans camped out at the front row during The String Cheese Incident and rumors circulated that some were even booing the band. Most recently at Okeechobee Festival in Florida, fans eager to see Bassnectar were seen kicking, shoving and grabbing hats from others who were trying to get to the front.
Bassnectar himself responded to the incident, telling his fans to teach each other how to be respectful when at a concert. As the new resident of Electric Forest we have no doubt that bassdrop flags will be flying high, but we urge everyone to listen to the man Lorin and "treat others how u wanna be treated".
